Stihl 021 chain catcher

My 021 came with a chewed up chain catcher...molded as part of the clutch cover.

My IPL shows an optional chain catcher...but, I can't see how it would fit my saw. It is PN 1123 656 7700.

So, my questions:

1. Anyone running 1123 656 7700 on a 021? Can you post a pic?

2. Anyone fab up an alternative chain catcher on one of these saws? Pic, please.

To me it looks like it replaces the front a/v plug on the saw, why do you think it wouldn't work?

Yes...that is how it looks. But, it looks like the case needs one, maybe two, additional holes in the correct locations relative to the AV hole. I don't think my holes are in the right location.

Maybe older versus newer saws?

Maybe I am wrong, and I do have the correct holes?

Howdy Roy,
The holes on your saw are already there on either side of the av plug. I am replacing or adding the chain catcher on my 025 since I tore off the one one the bar cover.
pull the hard AV plug out and push the new 1123 656 7700 chain catcher and you’re good to go.
I was also thinking of rigging up an aluminum CC but figured why fuss when there’s a replacement out there.

Have you thought about going with a side tensioner?

You may have to remove part of the old catcher on side cover for replacement to work.
remove black plastic buffer stiffener and stick replacement and mount (push) into void from stiffener. Replacement has small tab that goes into small hole next to mount towards Center of saw.
