Hello, I just found this forum and see a world of information. I just bought a new piston and ring set for this saw, every thing looks well made but the rings have a recess about middle ways, almost like 2 rings put together, although the lower part may not stick out as far as the top part. The original ring has 1 flat surface. What is the reason for this type ring and has anyone ever used one? Wish I had known about this forum before I got them. Thanks for the help. Will

Yes, used them before, work fine.

Idea is that the pressure on the cylinder wall is concentrated on a smaller surface area with improved seeling while the groove can accumulate and hold some oil. On the down side they likely will wear a little faster given the contact pressure between the cylinder wall and surface area of the ring will be higher.
