Hey all,
I picked up an 029 for short money though the oiler was reportedly not functional. I have a few questions on diagnosing this to be the truth/ oiler adjustment.
Oil does get to the bar actually to the point where it is dripping off at the base, so my questions are more about adjustment.
**Just because it is dripping off the base does not necessarily mean it is getting to the bar. Take the bar/chain cover off, remove the bar and chain. Blow all the sawdust and saw hash off the area around the bar studs. There is a outlet hole above the studs. Crank the saw and make sure the chain oil is coming out the hole. If not it may be leaking out of the tank or out the hose which routs around the bottom of the case.
Turn the case over and look and the black line, make sure the grommet is seated in the case and that the line has no holes in it.
1) should the oiler adjustment screw bottom out at either the high or low limit?
** It will bottom out either way...it adjusts a very short distance either way.
2) if no, how can i tell where the adjustment is?
The adjustment is on the bottom of the oil pump. On the bottom of the case, there is a place to place your screwdriver. I also believe there is a molded message which will indicate which way to turn. Clean off the bottom of your saw to make sure.
3) I've got the sprocket and clutch off and can see the oiler gear and spring, i can see how the plastic gear turns the gear on the oiler, but how is the spring involved?
The spring engages a small U shaped notch in the sprocket drum. Make sure you fit it back on in that manner. While you have all of this off, make sure you grease up your sprocket bearing when you replace it.
thanks much
