Stihl 036 pro rim sprocket change

Hey fellas, I have a stihl 036 pro setup with an 18" bar and chain. Has the 3/8 gear on the rim sprocket. Can I switch the gear out to a .325 ? I have about 12 16" .325 chains for my 026. Might as well use em. Plan to buy another 16" bar as well.

you can change the sprocket but you also need a bar with a .325 pitch tip. i would never even consider going to .325 on an 036 but to each there own. i just got back from burning some fuel through an 036 pro i just rebuilt and the thing pulls strong with a 25" 3/8's. i personally would spend my money on a bigger setup in 3/8's for the 036 and save the .325 chains for your 026.

just go to your dealer and fit the right spline .325 rim. I have had some with different sized splines. Might as well get a 9 pin at that bar length.

Didn't see this post at first. Might do that instead. Stay with 3/8 and throw some rooster tails.

I'm running 9 pin .325 18" bar on my 360 pro now to use up chains I have. I have the bars around and the chains and areplaceable rim so it is no big deal to go back and forth.

Make sure that your drum has the right hub (spline) size for the rim you want to use!

It could be either standard, small or mini on an 036....

If the drum is a Stihl branded one it is either standard or mini, if it is Oregon (or likely anything but Stihl) it is either standard or small.

Ive seen guys running .325 skip on 28-36 inch bars taking advantage of the narrow kerf /smaller engine -less weight. You need a .325 rim and bar tip to be the same. Baileys offers the 325 skip in 50 gauge;
