Stihl 038 II Mag Walk-Through?

Hey guys,
Snagged a old 038 MagII on the cheap and I'm looking to get her running over time.
Tried to fire it up---no success...pull rope came out about 10 inches and just stopped!
Walk me through some steps on checking this saw out from top to bottom & finding what it needs and what must be done?
I'm tired of sending saws out and waiting a zillion months to get them back or listening to a 1000 excuses.
So I'm ready to dig in and try and really learn some of the basic stuff.

Sounds like u need a longer starter rope.

Easier to just pull out the spark plug and check the compression. If it shows 90 then you will need to do some work. While you have the spark plug out you might as well check the spark..
