I was curious if this is the biggest Stihl saw made? I've heard that it is the big brute of the bunch, that it beats out the 88/880?

I have never ran one, but would like to pick one up if i could find a decent one, just from what i've heard about the power....Its like i cant ever find something with "enough" power...

2-3

Uh-oh you got CAD!! But you can't just go and pick a 090 up. If you could I'd have one. Try 2-3 grand for a good one on ebay.:greenchainsaw:

Look out for scams. That is the hottest chainsaw scam going right now. Beware of Europeans or Nigerians trying to sell them with some kind of escrow scam.

it would be a cold day in hell before i paid 2-3 grand for a used 090...thats for sure.
I've been thinking about just building a saw out of a honda CR250 engine or maybe a snowmobile and just having the power i've always been looking for...sounds a lot better compared to those prices...

But it just wouldn't be a Oh Nine Oh!:)
(However, I really do like your solution!!)

I thought the Lightning S was the big boy at 137cc. Thought the regular lightning and contra were 106cc like the 070's?????

You are correct. The previous poster was mistaken. The Contra/Lighting and 070 were 58mm/106cc. The Contra/Lighting used a different jug than the 070 but they were both 58mm/106cc. The 090 used a different crank and the larger jug/piston at 66mm/137cc. The 090G used the 070 jug and piston 58mm/106cc. Now they are a few of the 090g saws that were a bit bigger;)

...and the "G" models were 106 too!

Also... he actually said the biggest "saw"... at least I pointed out the size of the one man saws. Stihl made some 2 man saws that were way bigger. I think one was 300 cc's.

I didn't know the G's were only 106 cc, not that I've ever seen one! lol

You are right that not all the "G" saws were "just" 106cc - there was a Contra GS that combined the large engine (137cc/66mm) with the gears (1964-1969) - at least according to one supposedly reliable sourse I have.

I believe the largest cc Stihl chainsaw was the B2Z from 1937 - 450cc (2x225cc really).

Maybe it was different in the past but right now stihl lists the cranks for BOTH the 070 and 090 as the same, part # 11060300400.

Here are some pics. They look a bit different to me but heck I am wrong many times.

There's also a few 090s that are 70mm 164cc? and a few 137cc 090s that have a special six-headbolt jug and crankcase just for racing.
Hehehe
So,if you want the biggest 090, just how much is a good ten cubic inch 090 worth?
