I had an issue with a Stihl 310 regarding the high compression and the need for a decompression valve. The following is the response I received form Stihl.

We are in receipt of and thank you for your e-mail. I will be
happy to pass your suggestion onto the product manager. I can tell you
though that our main concern is with the customer. This is one of the
hardest subjects that we work with. From a safety point of view if the
customer cannot start the saw due to compression they more than likely
cannot physically control the saw when cutting due to its weight. That
is why we only offer the EASY2START(r) system on our small home owner
saws. Our main concern is customer safety. I would ask you to observe an
elderly user and watch the way they compensate for the added weight,
they tend to stand more in front of the handle than to the side and have
a tendency to drop the left hand to the side of the handle bar. Thank
you again for your e-mail and if we can be of any further assistance
please feel free to contact us again.

Its not about being able to start the saw.......

It's about making it easier. I could easy control the weight of my MS310, Dolmar 5100s, and Husky 51/55 but I sure with they had decompression valves like my 359s. There are a lot of folks that dont use decomps but save your muscles for sawing & carrying wood.

Email Bob back and tell him you have no problems controlling your 090. LOL:greenchainsaw:

Odd that you have a problem with the compression. My main saw is a 310 and I haven't noticed anythign 'hard' about it. Yes, I will occasionally get the cord ripped out of my hand but that has happened with every say I have every used.

Now that MS 210. That thing has a vicious 'rip' if you don't 'pull with authority' (and I forget to often). Worse than the 310.

i have a customer with this issue and i cannot figure it out. the saw pulls over fine but at times just acts like its got alot more compression than it should have, and i've had the saw down, checked ring gaps and so on... nothing is out of place technically. The saw eats up starter pawls and occasionally takes a pulley with them, i just dont know why its that way. The IPL's for the 310s now show a cylinder with a decomp valve, maybe this was their response to a known but not admitted problem
