Stihl HT101 Pole saw pulled in half

I got my pole saw hung up this past weekend and like a dummy pulled it in half.

I've never had it apart and don't have a repair manual.

Does anyone know a trick to getting the star shaped gear lined back up in order to put back together?

Do you have to take it completely apart or is there a way to align them without taking apart?

I always pull on the starter rope slowly while trying to line up, usually does it for me?

You likely lost the snap/c ring .
No, it isn't an easy fix......

Thanks, I will give that a try to see if I can get it engaged, if I didn't lose the snap ring like Harley suggested.

Even the comment about hating to put these back together helps me to know to take my time.
