Everyone here has been a lot of help and I've learned a lot so far. So, I thought I'd show you this as a way of saying thanks. Something to give you a laugh this morning....

This is my neighbors tree. It started out as nothing special - just a builder grade live oak. About 2 years ago, the owner had it topped. It looked like a Q-tip.

And every year, the owner has mulch added to the base of the tree. Unfortunately, he never has any removed. I give it 5 more years before the entire thing is under ground.

Enjoy.

Now that is a good laugh.

He also puts down paper under that new mulch, probably the comics section.

That tree gets the ugly duckling award, lets see what it looks like 2007 etc

James, thanks. A nice way to start a Monday morning!

I though I had seen it all...

Actually, you haven't seen the half of it......

because he has a second tree that he did the same thing to.

You know-that is just the sort of thing that can happen when a person gets good advice that they don't understand. " Sir you should add more mulch as the tree grows."-meaning -Increase the diameter of the mulched bed but understood as -Pile it on.
