Good job there Gypo. 25 years in the woods, cool. Your the King of the Forrest, remember that vid?, was great. Everyone wonders why you don't post as much as you use to, post more John, we enjoy your posts!!!!!

I am going to regeret asking this John, but is that for firewood, or milling? Don't see many trees that straight anywhere anymore!!!!
Andy

Hi Andy, just the crown went for firewood. The trunk yielded three 10' veneer logs and one 8' sawlog.
Hi Thall10326, ya I remember that one well. The cowardly lion from Wizard of Oz sung that one. lol
Here's another one I caught in flight.

Good question blis. To answer it honestly I would have to say it has more to do with the statis quo than common sense.
Since I work for myself and alone as well there is no pressure, plus I don't have to answer to anyones standards but my own.
There's nothing wrong with wearing proper safety gear, which I did for many years. If I had to set an example for employees I would defineately wear safety gear. It's right up there with the helmet and seatbelt legislation, however, I always wear my seatbelt. Go figure...
The ones using safety gear should keep on doing so, and the ones that don't, mabe should. As winter encroaches, I do wear chaps because the keep you warm as well.

what was the dbh on those trees?, you won't find too many of them around here anymore, i have a few 18" but not as tall and straight as those.
Hi woodfarmer the average dbh is about 24". With cherry, bigger isn't always better. The older anything is the more likely it has weathered many a storm with the result that the grade can take a drop.
