If you didn't already figure it out they're harvesting bark from Cork Oak trees.

The saw seems to limit how deep the bar goes while allowing the user to have better control.

I see. It is just odd. It is electronically controlled, probably similar to the sawstop.

It is just a shield that fits over the bar. Rescue saws have a similar option to limit the depth of cut.





Loosen the knob and slide the portion at the bar tip back to expose the portion of the bar you need.
