MS361 dropped two bar nuts intothe wood pile while I was using it...again. You'd think I'd learn tocheck them occasionally..anyhow that required a trip to my local stihl dealer...all of 1/2 mile down the road...to get 1/2 doz for the tool box. Looked like thy were training a new parts man, He was getting help looking them up on the 'puter. Other guy went and go the nuts, showed him how to enter the data adn print out the form $6.14. I hand him $7. He runs down to the end of the counter with the till. I wait...I wait...look down ther and he has two small handfuls of one dollar bills fiddling with them. Finally stuffs them in the till... more waiting and I look again. He has ahandful of change and is working a small adding machine with his other hand...enters data, looks...enters again. Studies the adding machine, the change in his hand. picks ouit some to put back in the till, recounts, checks against the adding machine and brings me my .86. That surprised me, I was expecting any amount of change except the correct amount :)

I thought maybe a mentally handicapped but they surely wouldn't be triaining one for parts person.

Counting change is getting to be a lost art:dizzy: Awhile ago we went to Menards the puters were shut down 5 min. early the manager was checking me out. The bill came to $97.50 he counted about 3 times then handed me a $5 bill. Itried to teach him the count back method but I dont think it worked.
 
When I was young I worked at Burger King and we didn't have cash registers. You had to figure the ticket in your head and the tax and real fast to boot... and give the correct change. I use a calculator now for everything... I have regressed.

It is indeed a lost art. If you hadn't told him what the change was supposed to be you'd STILL be waiting. Technological advances always have a down side. Lack of brain function being the most obvious.
 
pull your studs and retrofit the 261 setup...captive bar nuts. I have no idea if it really works, I just want it to work, but keep forgetting to check and see.

public math is a lost art. I like to keep at it though cuz' when I get it right, folks look at me like I'm a genius! :msp_w00t:
 
They teach everyday math now. Never understood how it works, but from what I gather its rounding to the nearest whole #. Had an argument with a teacher, (if it costs $22 then $20 will not work) She said we are not talking reality. Can't help the kids do homework I guess.
 
They are making them use a different style lower case "k" also. When I saw that, I took it all the way to the governor. However he got impeached, but he had good hair.

Last time in a fast food joint, I get my total and it's $6.86. I hand the teenage girl $7.06. The idea is to hand me back two dimes instead of one dime and four pennies. What I get is a blank stare, .06 handed back to me and then my change, one dime and four pennies. Good Lord, we're doomed if this is the generation that's going to be assuming control of the world.
 
hint, zip tie a spare nut to your saws bar it will come in handy in time. i lost a whole crew afternoon once but for 50 cent nut :mad: on bucket hyrdo saw.

I may just be tarded but where on the bar do you zip tie the nut? The nose? The middle? Around the clutch cover?

If you zip tied it to the nose, it would probably make it hard to finish a humboldt or a plunge cut, no? :msp_w00t:

I go through the same crap almost every night. My son is in 5th grade and I dont understand the way they try to do stuff anymore.

My Daughter is in 3rd, I have to read a few pages before in her book to figure out how to "Help" her. I used to think I was smart, now I think my wife is right and i'm just a smart @$$.
 
I know the feeling. I worked in hardware store.

Counting change is easy! And if the customer is one of the brilliant! people who walk the planet and hands you a strange amount of change you simply enter it into your cash register... the computer does the math for ya!! It ain't hard... which is why some of the most grey matter challenged work retail.

and the 6¢ problem... that would have been better to hand them 11¢ and totally confuse the issue. What I would have done was to hand them the change back and ask for two dimes instead! Maybe 1/2 hour after you left it would dawn on them how it was supposed to work.

That just sets you up to be really annoyed when you realize you went into the woods without a knife :D

My order was $4.25

I handed him $5.25

He called over the manager.

Manager got fustrated, and after they figured out to hand me a dollar, he told the kid to never accept something like that again.

I am familiar with the Everyday Math series. I am in my 3rd year teaching 4th after a decade of teaching 5th. Math curriculum is so heavy on the rounding and what is "almost" right.........or what I like to refer to as "ultimately wrong".

The people in a lot of school districts who choose the curriculum are often so far removed from the classroom that they have no clue what kids need. I am certain that education in general seems to be losing touch with the real world. Kids need to see and understand the application of their classroom learning to the real world. I don't care what age. It is the teacher's charge to make that link. Without it you end up sending the world a gaggle full of "special counter clerks".........and special isn't always desirable.
 
I actually like the rounding idea, up or down, if we could get rid of pennies and nickels. At the end of the day you'd probably come out about even. Most of our coinage costs more to produce than it's worth.
