Learn to climb is exactly right. The advantage to a bucket truck is you can take small pieces quickly without rigging them out and get the job done quicker. For bigger trees limb up as high as the bucket will go then hop out and finish it off climbing it. Ive always used the term ''Small Top- Small Problem". Taking huge tops in combination with trucks/excavators has disaster written all over it.............I don't mind pulling a tree over with a truck if the consequences are low ( ie- if the rope breaks or it goes sideways ). Not trying to bash you or your company, it just sounds a little lazy to be cutting trees in half when you can easily climb them and rope it down or block down small sections.
