I know one thing, it's very dry considering it came from a live tree in late spring. I don't normally get much maple around my way it came from a storm blew the top out.
 
I am also burning some right now. I like it, especially when temps are above 30. burns kind of fast, but i keep the splits big. great for big overnight pieces. smells like maple syrup when burning.
 
Leaves a lot of ashes. I try and avoid wood species that do that, but fortunately I have the opportunity to be picky. I took down 2 large silver maples in my yard after they dropped their leaves this year. It will be burned in my fire pit.
