So, back on page two I think it was, I asked if it is a clamshell motor. Does anyone know for sure?

Not a huge deal to me either way, I'll run it and port it however it comes, just curious because it kind of looks like it.

Seems some of the guys beating their gums here might have access to an IPL and could provide something useful for a change.:dizzy:

I hope you're not actually expecting a useful post out of me.

My brain has never worked hard enough to even come close to half of a useful post.

Not talking about you, my hope of getting a useful post out of you is below my hope of getting a truthful word out of the mouth of Obama.:D

Apart from the irritating and annoying looking "new" chain, I see no other changes apart from the ditzy spring on the front handle and the greenie carb setup. Everything else is just unimportant cosmetics deliberately re-shaped to make you buy all new parts. Basically just a 200T tarted up. Mutton dressed as lamb then lol

Hopefully the poor old wolf still has all it's fangs

The reason is they had they crap together, they had the 362 out way ahead of the competition, they followed quickly with the 291,311,391 and 261.
While others have lost major retail market share at Sears,Sam's Club and suffered a sku reduction at Wal-Mart and had distrobution issues early in the year, Stihl thrived. It's not a reflection of quality, I'd be proud to own virtually any mfg.'s professional saws, it is a reflection of upper management and channel of distrobution decisions. Now Dolmar find itself having EPA compliance issues.

Stihl just happens to be managed very well. They will continue to thrive due to innovation, being privately held is a big advantage, they can make the investments in technology, R&D, without public scrutiny, they control what they do in house rather than running and buying a company to play catch up on stratos like Husky chose to do, I ask you this, is the new 562 a husky design or is it a orange and silver redmax, it really makes no difference but the point is that it is almost what 2 years behind the 362 in hitting the market, big difference in sales right there.
They only have one brand to focus on vs. an umbrella of brands, which in itself is much more profitable.

[snip]

Umm, wasn't Husky years in front of Stihl with their X-Torq (strato) saws ? I seem to recall the 455, 570 and 575XP coming out long before any Stihl strato, and AFAIK Shinny came out with the 4-mix style engine before anyone else, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Other than that, we've hijacked a new saw thread, so carry on ;)

So you don't like the way the bar scabbard clips onto the side cover and cant fall off?

So you don't like captive nuts?

That chain is not the worst safety chain I have seen. Have you ever used this type or are you just #####ing on principle?

So you don't like better fuel economy?

Matt when you do do a video please do one with the stock chain too.

Single handed like your up a tree reaching out at full stretch on tippy toes to cut that last 4 inch branch.
Kinda like you know you cant get your fat ass out any further on the branch will snap under your weight.
So long as the saw self feeds and it is not so slow that you may cramp up in that ridiculous pose and fall out of the tree looking like John Travolta "staying alive" in the Saturday night fever poster pose

Just saying a chain that is smother and less likely to kick back and almost as fast has a place with real saw work

Seems like Brad might know if it a clamshell or not, I like the 3 piece clamshells with the removable P@C, easy to work on. Steve

Firstly don't you ever mock Travolta again. He's my idol and I've pulled that move in many a nightclub whilst drunk...

Secondly, when I do a comparo it will definately be with the same chain - pointless not to really. I'm looking forward to it and hoping the 201T will be at least as good as the 200T...

Yeah, right.

Did you have a white linen suit to bust those moves back in the eighties ?

Ha, didn't think so.

At least mine scored me major gropage at Maroubra Seals on the dance floor circa the summer of '87, although I can't be certain all the hands on my arse and elsewhere were from the fairer sex.
Hopefully all the photographic evidence of it has long since been destroyed.........but I digress.......

Shouldn't ought to digress that far.

I grew up in the '70s. Disco was indeed an abomination!

But hey, the girls sure were decked out.

I digress, I like my Women a little on the Wild side.

All I can say is Stihl had better done their homework real well on that saw!! Otherwise a lynchmob of Arborist's is going to get together and lynch the Stihl's engineers.

I don't know that I like the fact that its so short looking, I like the feel of the size of the 200T as is. Shorter isn't better IMHO.

Come on, we all know stihl invented and holds the patents on strato charging, air injection and spring anti-vibe. We also know stihl invented the internet. Just ask Al Gore.

I doubt stihl would mess too hard with such a successful saw but time will tell on the 201. The spring antivibe should be an improvement but it is really the weight and balance that will make or break the saw. The 200t is well respected amoung tree guys but the design is archaic and most I know would not hesitate to make a switch if something better came along. So far, nothing has come even close.

So Tommy, all we got to do is start a Stihl bashing thread and you'll jump back in the ring with us???

Come on bro !!! we can use you in the " why won't my saw start" threads too....either way its good to see ya posting even if its just temporary.

I'm sending ya a Wendy's #2 just for fun !!!

Well Angelo how could I turn down such a offer of a Wendy's No.2 in return for getting back in da ring. It is getting close to fall and beings it gonna soon be real cold your on. Course now I'm getting older and I find it easier to just killem instead of fussing with em, that ok? :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

I see alot of saw problem threads when I sit around plucking the geetar and reading some of these threads. I started to tellem what the problem was but my fingers were making such beautifull music I wasn't about to go typing, my ears would had slapped me. I'll try to do better, may require another No.2 though, yes my advice is free but my entertainment is gonna cost ya buddy, hehe
