Can someone help me understand why a certain pitch is used on a certain class of saws?
Here is my observations. Small saws (30-40cc) use 3/8 low profile. Medium saws (45-55cc) use .325. Large saws (60cc +) use 3/8 (or sometimes .404)
I understand what pitch is, distance b/t 3 drive links divided by 2, but I dont understand how pitch corresponds to size of saw. Obviously, the smaller the pitch, the more drive links/cutters a size bar will use. Why why wouldn't the pitch get smaller as the saw gets bigger? Bigger engine means ability to handle more cutters? Why is 3/8 low profile used on small saws? Low profile means the cutters are shorter (I think), but how does this affect performance?
