I finally got over my pride of starting fires the "manly" way, and bought some fire starters, now I don't need no stinking kindling. I put dry wood in the stove, put a square of fire starter, light it up, and off she goes. I usually burn 24/7, so I really don't use that many, as I have coals in the stove to light up the next load.
If I were having to start a new fire every day, I might be looking for cheaper ways to light the stove. I have used a small brown paper bag half filled with wood shavings from my planer, along with a cap full of vegetable oil along with some small splits and it got the fire going pretty good too, and didn't cost much.
