Last year I splurged and bought 5 David Bradley vintage chainsaws, none of them ran when I got them, and one had a worn keyway on the crankshaft- of the 5, I got 4 of them running with relative ease. I'd like to share a few youtube videos of the AH-58 and AH-81 DB saws. One of the AH-58's I bought from a guy on this site, so whoever you are, yes that saw was a fixable, running saw. It needed the points filed, carb rebuilt, and new spark plug- that's all.

here they are, enjoy:

model 917.61406 with AH-58 engine- idling and wide open throttle:chainsaw:

model 917.60009 with AH-81 engine- this is the big one, 131 cc's, 8 horsepower- first 2 idling:

and the grand finale- the big AH-81 at WIDE OPEN THROTTLE:chainsawguy:

Cool old saws...are they as loud as they seem? Never have to worry about getting lost in the woods, but by the size of them ,I'm guessing you wouldn't be very far in anyway.:clap:

the AH58 is actually a later saw, a few years later, and improved- it's lighter, higher rpm, less gear reduction, faster chain speed, and improved choke control handle and throttle lock- and a little lighter too

the AH81 you could not carry very far- I walked it about 150 feet and it had me bent to the side, and I'm 175 lbs. and 5'10"- IMHO that's a bucking saw only, if you have to use it. Lay the saw on the tree, pull the trigger, the sheer weight of the saw drives the bar through the tree- you simply can't bog it down.

yes, they are as loud as they sound, and louder. The saws have no muffler to speak of, just a cover on the exhaust port that directs the exhaust down, or forward and away. The AH47's I have, are the loudest, even though they are the smallest- they actually make your ears ring.

Cool saws.

It looks like the saw in the second and third videos has the chain running backwards. Is that an optical illusion?

good point, and good eye- optical illusion with the MPEG Sony camera on anything that is spinning, it looks like it's going backwards with this camera, just like the old Western films when the wagon wheels looked like they were turning backwards, when the wagon was moving forward

Been looking for one of those big AH-81's for quite some time now. You are lucky to have found one. I wish I had the money....
