I am thinking it is some kind of Fomes, and I guess it does not really matter as far as how to address it, but it is killing me not to know. This is an annual, located about breast high on a Silver Maple [dbh 36 inches] in Peoria Illinois. Other than this the tree appears in good health. Thanks for your help.
