why are the windsor bars that are made in canada wider than the windsor bars made in the us. what are the advantages and disadvantages of a wider vs narrower bar?

Maybe because of the metric system here in canada.You get less for more.Or is it more for less.Narrow bar need less angle on the cutter top plate.=longer chain life and faster cutting.

Hi Ken, are you refering to the thickness of the bar or the depth?
Maybe the U.S. bar has a different application or is a different grade then the CDN bar.

the windsor bar is made here by oregon in Guelph, you can also get wider bars in Oregon to

Because they are not Windsor bars anymore. Todays windsor bars are basicly a powermatch bar with a windsor tip.

Windsor bars are no longer manufactured. Oregon makes them and puts the Windsor name on them. The Windsor bars went downhill from about '85 on. At one point they were putting the mini pro nose bearings in the ST noses to only have to stock one size bearing. Lots and lots of nose failures. If you got hold of a good one though it would last you forever.
