oh the joys of workin in the "mostly" frozen swamp

hope you guys enjoy my pics so far

Different conditions than up here, especially this year. No real swamps up here, didn't even get a real winter. Ours is a small parcel next to a national forest, lot of hills. Small dozer would be nice to have to drag trees or plow snow. Got a Kubota rtv 900 that gets used for a lot of lighter wood cutting chores. Always interesting to see other folks setups.

we have 120ac of land in the black ash swamp just south of the door/kewaunee county line here in northeast wi. its about 4 or 5 ac of open fields and the rest is trees and swamp.

just looks sad with that flimsy little winch on it, compared to a Gearmatic with a real roller fairlead...

well sure is better than havein 2 pull it out with a 3ton chain hoist which has had 2 of been done in the past. we have a surplus military full hydro winch settin here for it but this was much quicker to throw on for now. plus this one i can put on front of either of my equipment trailers for loading dead cars and equipment.

Way cool, I like your old crawler!

My boss has a few, couple whoppers and a little 50 horse Dresser with wide tracks. I'd love to ask to borrow it for hauling logs out, but the undercarriage is about worn, and it is needed for real necessary stuff, so I don't ask. Goes through mud really well.

I have been around many of swamps here in Louisiana...none of them have ever been frozen like that, ha!

problem we have on our property this winter is we had a very wet fall and it froze over early. over winter the water table went down so theres a few inches of ice and a 6 to 8in void of empty space. if the water table was right up under the ice i never would of broke threw like i did in the one pic. but was able to stick a log in under track and the lug grabbed it and pulled the log under and the cat got enough traction to back out of the hole

couple years ago we went threw the ice when the water table was high and nocked a track off. took me and the old man a whole day to pull it out with a 3ton chain hoist and get the track back on. that was a bad day let me tell you lol

Cool pics, keep them coming.
