My brother sent me these pics, wondering what kind of tree this is. I've personally never seen one like this, but since it came from a fence row, I'm sure it's common. Thanks guys 20150103_173738.jpg20150103_173752.jpg20150103_173758.jpg

bark looks like elm. it ain't red elm or american elm. possibly siberian elm?? its not hackberry, hackberry has a white end grain with very distinct warty bark.

Box elder has a small, light pink center. I google'd American & siberian elm, just don't look the same. From pics I saw, the dark heartwood in elm is "the majority" so to say. With only like 2" of white wood around the perimeter. Idk, this one's got me stumped

Just looks like a young tree to me. Probably sub 12" diameter

That's what my brother thought, black walnut. I said no cuz I cut down a 3 footer last year, and IIRC, the heartwood & sapwood was all very dark. I didn't even think about it not being a mature tree. Thanks guys!!
