Located in New Jersey. Very heavy when wet. Not so bad as it starts to dry out. Splits pretty well.

I was thinking elm but I know there's a bunch of different types and guys complain how hard it is to split. This splits easy.

Ulmus Rubra = red elm / slippery elm...decent firewood. Splits much easier than most of the other elms.

Not much in the way of natural red elm in NJ area.
Looks very much like Siberian elm to me, only cut a few of them and they are always on a city property planted at some point.
