My son is using some pieces of wood from this log for a small project. He got it about 4 years ago working for a tree service, but wasn't sure what it is. The bark looks like cedar, but has a purplish tint on the center part (but not lined up with the rings, so not the heartwood). This piece is about 3-4" diameter. What kind of wood is it?
