I've got an older 024 with a HU54B that I got as a box of parts; I took the carb apart and it's pretty gummed up.

Is it worth try to clean and rebuild this carb or should I just swap in a new OE WT-194?

I'm seeing OEM Tillotson RK-14HU kits for ~$20 or so, and new OE WT-194's for $80 or so. I don't want to dump a bunch of $ into a saw that's not in great overall shape otherwise, so would rather rebuild the HU54 if there's a decent chance of it running well.

I've had mixed luck with rebuild carbs in the past; I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, but I usually strip them down, soak in carb clean or brake cleaner overnight, and clean as best I can.

THanks!

I replace every HU that I can, had the worst luck rebuilding them, the Walbro WT194 is a good carb for 024 and 026 Stihl.

Got it, makes sense.

Do you have a good source for the WT194? Are there multiple variations or are all WT194 the same? I've looked on ebay but can't seem to find for under $80...

The 194`s are not cheap, that`s what I pay for them. The 194 is the model number and are all the same if genuine Walbro. Maybe someone on the State side may have a better source for them but up here $80. is about average.
