Early in the fall, I noticed the bark being stripped/missing from a couple of oaks. The missing bark was generally scattered on the ground at the foot of the trees. I don't know what kind of oaks these are; whatever's native to central Texas (Kaufman/Hunt county), I suppose. A neighbor once told me they were post oaks, white oaks and water oaks, but these are just wild trees that don't receive any care at all.

Now, either the problem is spreading or I'm just noticing it more on other trees; I may have a total of 10 or so affected trees that have been impacted to one degree or another.

Can anyone help me diadnose/treat this problem? My 1.5-acre lot is cleared (except for trees) and mown, but is surrounded on three sides by native flora & fauna and we seem to have regular armadillo traffic at night.

Any help would be much appreciated.
