Not all MTD chainsaws are junk I bought this for my father who has been struggling with a 35cc Ryobi. This MTD is a rebadged Efco 152 the price was a lot less than a homeowner stihl or husky.

The Efco 152 is made in Italy.
It looks just like my John Deere CS-42, which has been great. It's a tried-and-true design.

Gmax, how much does that MTD sell for ?

mtd is same company as weed eater poulan McCullough and also makes saws for husky the homeowner models.plus the sears craftsman brand...i have done a lot of research on brands for a dealer ship. is amazing what you will find out if you go far enough into a companies history and acquisitions.just as blount industries is oregon carlise windsor power sharp etc.... tanaka is owned by hitachi....what else do you want to know??? shindaiwa and echo are both owned by a holding co. i was being sarcastic about the chinese part....but i guess you missed that.

I paid $400, which is half the price Efco 152 sell for over here, the dealer only has
2 left, after that he cant get anymore.
Efco/Oleo Mac are decent saws I have 8 of them, no problems with any of them.

I have an Efco 152 that I bought in new condition from the classifieds here. It is the first saw I reach for. It has incredible build quality and starts almost as well as my 30 year old Poulans. I don't think MTD sells those here in the United States but I am not sure. That is a great saw. I have to point out that they left off the bucking dawg on the right side of the bar. We get that with the Efco.

That's interesting about the bucking dawg, the photo's in the user manual only show one bucking dawg, maybe for the Australian market they only had the one bucking dawg.
I'll ask the dealer next week.

Dude, You might want to check your research. The Husqvarna (Formerly part of Electrolux) group owns/ operates Poulan, Weed Eater, Mcculloch, Redmax, Jonsered, Partner, & there are several more.
However, MTD is not, and ever has been, part of the Husqvarna group. MTD has well known names like Cub Cadet, Troy Bilt, Yard Man, Yard Machine, Bolens, & several others. MTD's trimmers & such are usually built around a Ryobi (aka Ryan) engine platform.
Craftsman is built by everybody, always has been. Lowest bidder situation.

Personally, I'm glad to see MTD using a quality builder like Efco for their chainsaws!! Thats a nice looking chainsaw!

i will say i was wrong about efco but i am right about husky...here it is straight off the husky page.
Americas
Husqvarna is a leader in North- and Latin America. In 2009 the Group captured additional market shares in several product areas. The North American market is highly consolidated, and the products are sold primarily through large retail chains, as well as servicing dealers.

Products
Operations in this business area include development, production and sale of forestry and garden equipment in North America and Latin America. The products comprise five categories; riders, lawn mowers, handheld products, irrigation products, and accessories.

The product range is comprehensive and competitive. Several global competence centers are devoted to maintaing a high rate of product development for both new and existing products. Priorities include greater investments in battery-driven products and improvement of environmental performance of the products.

Brands
The portfolio includes a number of strong brands. Husqvarna is a global premium brand and Redmax is regional mid-premium, while Poulan and WeedEater are regional non-premium brands. The retail chain Sears is one of Husqvarna’s largest customers, and sells Husqvarna products under its own Craftsman brand.

Customers and distribution
In North America the greater part of sales to consumers are channeled through major retailers such as Sears, Lowe’s, Walmart and Home Depot. Husqvarna-branded products are sold mainly through servicing dealers, i.e. small independent retailers who also offer technical service. The main end-users for this brand are professional garden/landscape maintenance companies as well as municipalities and institutions.

The strong resell network has been developed over many years and is an important competitive advantage. Husqvarna is committed to continuously maintaining and strengthening relations with dealers. This includes enhancing delivery accuracy, improving access to spare parts and offering improved training programs. Husqvarna is also increasing investments in brand-building at points-of-sale in terms of product displays and packaging.

In 2009 the Group launched the Husqvarna Performance Product, a web-based service that enables professional end-users with service-intensive machines to make more efficient use of their equipment.

End-users
End-users comprise two categories; consumers and professional users.

Production
The greater part of production is at Group plants in the US. Several products such as petrol-driven lawn mowers, chainsaws and other handheld equipment for consumers are manufactured at the Group's plants in China. Lawn trimmers, clearing saws and high-end chainsaws are supplied by the plant in Huskvarna, Sweden. In addition, the robotic lawn mower Automower® is exported from the UK.

These facilities are specialized and highly flexible, in order to enable response to seasonal and weather-related variations in demand.

just a little more

Brands
The Group has a portfolio of strong brands which addresses specific customer segments and corresponding sales channels.

Husqvarna is the major brand, accounting for more than 40% of total Group sales. Husqvarna has been a strong global brand for many years, particularly for chainsaws and other handheld products. The brand stands for technical leadership, high performance and quality. Husqvarna-branded products are sold in the premium segment.

The range of products under the Husqvarna brand has been steadily expanded, and also includes high-performance consumer products. These products are sold mainly through servicing dealers. They have shown average annual growth of approximately 10% over the past five years.

Gardena is the leading brand for irrigation and garden equipment in the European consumer market. The brand has a very strong position in the premium segment, and accounts for approximately 10% of Group sales. Market research has consistently shown that awareness of the brand is very high among consumers. Good opportunities exist for increasing sales under the Gardena brand by expanding the product offering as well as the brand's geographical presence in new markets, including Eastern Europe.

Other brands

The Group has a number of brands with strong positions in local or regional markets and within specific product categories. These brands are important but will not be expanded at the global level. The largest of them in terms of sales are:

Poulan and WeedEater, well-known brands for chainsaws and garden products in the North American mass market.

Partner, which has a corresponding position in Europe and is particularly strong in Scandinavia.

Jonsered, a leading brand for high-performance forestry and land maintenance products, with a similar position to Husqvarna's in certain markets.

Zenoah, with a similar position to Jonsered in the Japanese market.

Flymo, a market leader in electrical garden products for the consumer market in the United Kingdom, with a strong position in Scandinavia.

i was wrong also about mtd... although they had at one time bought shares in poulan weedeater brand before it was sold out to husky group...i have this on paper but cant find an e file on it.sorry.i was mistaken on that part. efco is part of the yama group.i may actually look more into this brand for resale. my only concern is the oilers... some of the new chain lube doesn't want to run through some saws as well as others.

alot find it odd that a 50cc saw would have 2 dawgs on it anyway so ya it shouldnt be a big deal, remember alot bought the cub cadet efcos so it would make sense that there would be some mtd out there also,
have 2 52s a jd version and an efco both was cheap, under 200 each shipped new off ebay I didnt need them either, they have always started easy and ran great, guess my only complaints might be would like to see it oil a little more but I just thin the oil to get around that problem.

not to keep beating your thread up but does the mtd/efco have an adjustable oiler?

i think i will buy one and try it out...my friend runs a mill down the road i will give it to him to break it in..lol he cuts about four cords a day between him and his boy..it will get a work out.he's been looking for a cheaper saw then the husky's...we have been working on getting a saw shop opened my cousin will run me and my uncle will be partners with that business.we have been looking at different brands for a while but so many have mileage restrictions from other dealers etc. thanks for the info anyhow...

There's lots of positive comments about the 152, I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
