Building my own OWB - the lowdown

I wish I would have put radiant tubing under my garage approach :censored: it would have saved me a lot of shoveling. If you do any more slab stuff like that I would recommend it, might as well, you just have to heat the slab above freezing to keep it nice :D

Building my own OWB - the lowdown

If I had that tank you are talking about, I would make that the waterjacket for sure and build a firebox in it or just use it as what it is. A water tank ;) The 7/16" thick is pretty thick for heat transfer and its huge, so it wouldn't make a good firebox in my opinion. Jail huh...

    Moisture meter ?

An accurate one should read atleast .75-1.5 inches into the wood in my opinion. Do a search, these have been discussed before :)

Any other pole burners out there?

I think we should cut the guy a break, I don't think he realized that there are chemicals in the poles. Seriously. :(

    Heatmor Furnace question

^^in that picture is the aquastat and the high limit. Sounds to me like your aquastat is bad too....

    Central Boiler vs Wood Master

:agree2: and you forgot to add the ash auger that is much easier than shoveling the ashes out ;)

    Owb

What town do you live in? You are right by me then....I live about 7 miles from Heatmor.... You could come and see mine if you want :D Oh and forced draft will make your stove heat up faster and usually burn cleaner, I say forced draft is the only way to go!

    Owb

I have a Heatmor and love it as well. There are many other threads on this subject if you search too.

New OWB owners - Beware the Fireball!

This is actually a little different then what the original poster posted. What happened in the Eclassic is more typical of a downdraft and since these guys have been putting paperclips on their "flippers" on those stoves it will happen if the conditions are right, wind, etc....his sheet metal...

Building my own OWB - the lowdown

^^ You want to control the water temp going into your house/in your boiler so yes its the supply line.

Building my own OWB - the lowdown

Best place is right in your *SUPPLY* line. Then you know the water temp going into your house. You don't want it in your return line that has nothing to do with your OWB. Or if you are doing tanks put them in right before the water gets put into your house.

To load or not to load ?

It seems there has been a lot of discussion on this in other threads, but the main consensus seems to be if you load more you burn more in the off cycle because there is more to smoulder in your firebox while its off. So load just what you think you need for 12 hours so that you have a good bed...

    OWB - Big ash cleanout

I have a heatmor and auger mine out about every week just to keep things neat and tidy :D I auger out not even half a gallon every week....Too bad you guys have to shovel yours out :dizzy:

To Be Hawken Energy, or not to be???

If you read up, I've heard that you have to register your warrenty within 5 days or you have no warrenty, I've also read about that new Eclassic having problems with the firebricks falling out and they don't warrenty any of that even if you get it the first day and your brick falls out. Also...

Building my own OWB - the lowdown

I've seen a few crappy gasifiers though....some fly by night operations like that BlackBear that got a lot of Media then went into the dumps. It depends on the company and which stove you have looked at too. Ghitch75-What OWB do you have?
