Just found my first milling saw

I am lurking a lot and reading all I can here before I ask any questions. I have quite a bit of milling experience on other mills. I worked on our family mill growing up on the homestead. It was a rebuilt headrig bush mill from the 1940's. Then I worked at two other milling operations as a...

Just found my first milling saw

Been a while since I have visited the forum but this morning I happened to go to a yardsale just down the road and found this. It was used in an Alaska chainsaw mill and someone bought the mill for a saw they already owned! So missed a deal on mill but paid $200 CAN for this saw. I can't find...

Yard Sale Saw Dolmar DCS 7901

All right, so after reading a bit here about my new to me saw, I can see why some of you are so jealous. Looks like I got a good deal, especially for a Canuck. LOL! All I did was crawl out of bed to go to a yard sale, which I don't often do. I'll head on over to the milling forum soon...

Want more umph... (from 55cc to 70-75cc)

Husq 372 or dolmar 7900. Want a better looking saw than the 372? Get a Jonsered CS2171.

    Look what I found!

nice I think it would make a great milling saw. Lots of metal and only a bit of plastic on that saw.

*USED* stihl 361 OR husqvarna 365 special??

365 I am biased towards the 365 because I own one. Hard to go wrong with this model. It could turn a guy off stihl forever. The ms361 seems to have a good reputation but you do not have one for sale at the moment to make comparison based on used condition. Thats the problem with used saws...

does 2-stroke oil quality matter. stihl hp ultra vs. dolmar synthetic

I would run either oil in the OP. Right now I like Optimol synthetic 50:1 because they have offered to double engine warranties with its use but mostly because I can use a 50:1 mix for all my two cycle engines and keep my fuel fresher as a result. I try to use stabilizer as well and the best...

Full Chisel Chain.... what exactly are dirty conditions?

Thanks for this thread guys. I had never even seen semi chisel chain until I found this site recently. I wonder if my dealer even stocks it. I may have to order some from baileys. I have always used full chisel and if I was doing nothing but falling and bucking in the clean virgin forest it...

Ok lets here it, how does a Jonsered compair to a Stihl or husky

I grew up with stihl on the farm and inherited a number of stihls. Stihl saws were a great improvement over domestic saws of the time. There are some great stihl models out there and quite a few not so great models. When I had the opportunity to run Huskies while logging, I recognized their...

    Husqvarna 235 Chainsaw Good Buy??

Thanks for the entertaining and informative thread. I am going to get one of these myself as a second saw. I don't qualify for free shipping and it will cost me almost twice as much to land the saw in Canada. Still it will be a bargain. Here husky saws at the dealer start at $300 and the...

Waiting for Christmas like a kid. Husky from Santa

Very nice. I can sympathize with the waiting. I just got the 372's step brother, a Jonsered 2165 only I had to pay for it and now it is too cold to use it. Maybe you can cut down the christmas tree with the 372 after the new year. Trim the branches off and buck it up for firewood lol .

    New Jonsered 2165 finally arrives

It took a month for my new saw to arrive here in Canada. I got one of the last two in the nation according to my dealer. So if you are in Canada and you want one of these, put your name on the list and wait for some more to arrive from sweden, unless you happen to find a dealer with one...

    Timber framing

I have Rob Roy's book Timber Framing for the rest of Us. It is good for showing how to use metal fasteners instead of complex wood joints and dowels. It comes up short on overall timberframe design. Next on my list is timberframers workshop by steve chappell. Not very many practical books...

6 cords out of one tree, 6 to go! Big one!

burning cottonwood Self sufficiency is the most important thing. If it works don't fix it. You are right about needing a large stove. When you need a fire that will stay alive for 10-12 hours you need a bigger firebox unless you have access to dense hardwoods. My acreage is covered with...

    Always wanted a Jonsered!

You are indeed blessed. I know the feeling as I am just about to get my hands on a 2165. You might call Jonsered the cadillac of Husqvarnas. Also to answer your question, maybe consider the 2245 if you still want a saw on the smaller side but with more capacity than the 2141.

    Jonsered Iron Horse

This machine is on my wish list too. It is a lot of money. But if it does as it is made out to be...Wow! Low impact eco-logging or suburban and acreage logging. Great machine for woodlot silviculture. Also compare the cost of the alternatives. Horse logging team, skidder/forwarder, skid...
