    660 vs 880

On the 36" oak I just slab the 880 cut without bogging till the chain was well past dull. It does suck fuel though 8' length at 36" was almost an entire tank per pass.

    moon phase

Bob you just made my point, yes they don't have enough money but they do get food, through food pantries, meals on wheels or soup kitchens. Just because they don't have the money does not equate to their going to bed hungry. That is buerecratic double speak. Like I said I wasn't arguing the...

    moon phase

Come on Bob, as far as exports go that all may be true, BUT... I am from the middle of the country and the make a decent wage and the poor eat BETTER than I do. We have in a town of 100,000 no less than 3 private soup kitchens and 3 homless shelters. Be very careful quoting stats when there...

    My second DIY mill (pictures)

I tried cobalt on my stihl bar, just smoked it, thought I was going slow and used lots of oil. I might try it on my other bar and see if it is any softer. Thanks for the tips.

    Alcohol in gasoline

The original post had nothing to due with plastics. The real problem I have had here in Humid Hot Missouri is moisture. The white milky substance at the bottom of a gas can is a reality and a relatively new one.

    Alcohol in gasoline

Some of the pumps for premium are labeled as such. Bes t way is if you have a lake close most marinas sell ethanol free gas. Ethanols ability to atrack water caused problems in boats so marinas are a good place to find it. My local station has the pump marked.

    Alcohol in gasoline

Here in Missouri only the lower grades are mixed. Premium is straight gas, all I use in my saws and hav'nt seen a problem. Had gas mixed in the saw for over a month with no issues.

    quarter sawing

True quarter sawing looks like a pie or wedges, only way to get every board truly quartersaw. The left pictures does a good job without wasting lots of wood. Dan

Converting a 60" Stihl Sprocket to Roller

Thanks Bob that makes perfect sense with the little I found. So it looks like the real advantage is you can run any pitch chain on a bar. Is this it or am I missing something obvious??

    Chainsaw Mill guide fixture....

Looks like it would be hard to get the mill on the guide board. Also at least with my mill the weight would deflect the guide board pretty bad. Really digging the indexed center hub though... Dan

Converting a 60" Stihl Sprocket to Roller

OK, I searched the net and can't find info on the roller nose. Exactly how do these work. I have an 880 and want to try running 3/8 on it once the 404 is used up. Needless to say Bob has been inspirational and have been following the 880 threads...

I am also a woodworker with a 12" planer. I have made several projects wider than 12" using a router in a jig as a planer Look at Aggie's table he made recently, good reason to cut WIDE boars.

Here in Missouri almost all of the old farm houses are framed with sycamore. Keep it dry as it rots easily.
