I have a little treat for you members. In Oct. 1995 CBC [Canadian Broadcasting Corporation] did a little television biography about myself. The whole film crew spent the day at my cottage and we put together this story of you guessed it "Willard Holmen ,Paul Bunyan of the north".The show is called Coleman And Company and has been shown on CBC across Canada on a show called Country Canada in 1996. I had to drop a big spruce on a tv camera buried in the ground . Carved an eagle out of a block of wood and run my Yamaha Hotsaw. Cut with my 090 60". I co-starred with a standup comedian.

I just got the VCR tape converted over to DVD and it turned out real nice. Now I have to figure out how to get it onto this site. Tree service is real busy and I'll find the time soon.

He does, but only to say that he knows a guy, tell you he knows where a certain saw is at, and or to tell you that he is saving up for something.

I mowed a billion blades of grass.

I just buy, sell and collect saws.......

Oh forgot cut some wood too.......I wont be in the 500,000 tree club and dont care..........:) :)

I concur - stick with .325. The 20nk is not a bad chain at all...

A few years back I finished off a 100' roll of Stihl .050 ,.325 full chisel chain I believe it was called 23 RS. Now its no longer available here, I believe USA too. Ran it on my 026-16" and 044 -Oregon 18" with small radius double guard tip[ less derailing with the .325 on a short safety tipped bar] Good smooth cutting fast chain .In the mid 1980s when the first 034 came out at 56cc the 33 RS or Oregon 72LG was a little too much for it in pro pulpcutting, but back then we had the 3/8" .050- 33 TS[topic super: looked like a .325 full chisel but in 3/8] and the Oregon 3/8" .050- 76 LG . 77LG was .058. They were filed with a 3/16" file.
The above smaller chains would be excellent for a stock 346XP, but now if your looking for a full chisel .325 it looks like you would only have the Oregon 20LP to choose from. I never liked the LP chains, a little slower and heavier then the LG chains. If you find some Stihl 23 RS .325 that would be a good find.
Back in the 1980s I built racing chain out of Oregon 76LG low profile 3/8" chassis with full size 72 AL cutters on it.When I worked for Stihl in 1989 the Swiss sawchain factory sent me some prototype 3/8" chain to test , you guessed it 33RS cutters on 33TS chassis. There you go an excellent performance tip without a PM and for free.

23RS was replaced by the 23RSC - the difference is mostly that the RSC has a low-vibe chassis, copied from the Oregon LP etc.

I have used 21LP on my 346 so far, but just ordered a couple of 25RSC-66 chains for it.

I don't know if you have access to Baileys SawTroll but Baileys sells a WoodsmanPro 20RC -.050, 23RC-.063 .325 chisel chains with the better chip clearance and chip flow ramped depth gauges over the 21 LP at a good price. And even a 20RCS[skip] Better choice for the 346XP then the Woodsman 20NK semi-chisel.

The RS/RSC also has the ramped rakers instead of the small ramps on the driver.

However, I have had no issues with chip clearanse with the LP, and the combination of the "slimmer" rakers and small ramps doesn't take up much more space than the larger ramped rakers.
There may be a notisable difference with very long bars, but not with the ones I use (16" on the 346).

I have a couple of Carlton chain that Mark Heimann was kind enough to send me, but not in .325 .058gauge 66dl. If they turn out good, I will consider ordering some Carlton chain from Baileys. Carlton is not offered around here, just Stihl and Oregon.

The skiptooth .325 Carlton[20RCS] would be fun to try out too, even on a 16" bar, you would have to order a .050 bar too if you don't already have one. The skiptooth may change a few peoples perception on the little .325

First post here. I usually only read because of the very thing that thread has turned into.

To get back to the subject; There has been extensive testing done with all types of chain, bars lengths and degrees of power. The .325 full comp chisel bit chain is the best chain for the 346xp period, no exceptions, even for a modified saw.

Fits well with the info I have collected so far.

Silly application of a 50cc saw.
