Umm no the first guy got pissy cause he thought i still wanted a Echo, all i was saying is how expensive a 372 was. Then after that everyone decided to come rag on me and i stuck up for myself. I did not get aggressive first! I even apologized to one guy.

This is the last post about the situation i will do my own research and choose wisely. This thread can be closed.
Have a nice day unless you have made other plans.

As you do your research to choose wisely, I would recommend that you reread the posts and advice given. From the posts, I understand that you are young and run a lawn care business and occasionally need to cut some smaller trees and branches. If you intend to be in the same business 15 years from now, if you buy a professional model, that saw will still be with you. Spending an extra $150 now will be better business decision. If you go out of business/ change careers, you will get more for the resale of a professional model. You stated that you don't want to spend $600 on a used 372, bet you someone will - food for thought.

That there is good advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With all the idiots posting on here that do and have never run a well tuned Echo with a good chain, yes most need muffler mods but they gain more than a lot of other saws that have more opened up muffs to start with, is sure is funny most every time I let Stihl and Husky chainsaw owners use my CS510 or CS520 that want to know where to buy them. Must be because they're junk. Get real. Steve

Couldn't agree more, Nothing wrong with Echo.

Heres the specs for the CS680:

Engine capacity: 66.7 cc

Max power: 4.35 Kw

Weight: 6.6 Kg

Don't know why you guys in the US don't have power spec's but every brochure I have here in New Zealand on Echo's has them listed.

the way i look at it and this is just me personally. why spend 1000.00 on a stihl when i can spend 500.00 on an echo to do the same amount of work. i mean that is a no brainer. i really think it is a status symbal to own stihls. same as all the rich people buying hummers,,caddys, and million dollar homes.

No kidding! Try running something you complain about before complaining about it. All the EPA-age saws need a tuning and/or mods to get them up to power.

You don't have to look too far above you to find some of those no brainers. Steve

That translates to 5.8334 Horse power. That is a big load of BS. More power than an MS440 or 441? Yeah right. Thats close to the 6HP raing on a 76cc MS460

And thats why published hp numbers mean nothing, we know a CS680 doesn't have 5.8334 hp, in real life my old muff modded CS6700 will cut almost as fast as my 044, about 1 second slower in a 20 second cut and it wieghs 1# less on a good scale and it's 67cc vs 70cc. Steve

Stihl and Husqvarna power specs are pretty darn accurate. You can tell by running the different saws that what they say for power translates to what one would expect in the wood. However, that Echo spec has to be way off.

Its not a bad thing that this turned into an Echo thread. They do make good stuff, but so much of teh new models are really iffy from what I can see. I do think the old reed valve models were actually pretty good. I wouldn' mind getting a 341 because I quite liked running the 300T. The way they are going about choking the saws up to meet emissions requirements is really hurting the product. Stihl and Husky are meeting those same targets with much better results in the saws.

If hp numbers are accurate why do the 3.8hp MS290 and 3.2 MS260 cut at about the same speed. Why does a 4hp CS600 Echo and a 4.4 hp MS361 cut at the same speed. Why does my CS510 3.5hp outcut my 3.5 hp Shinny 488 by a lot. Numbers are just selling points and should be viewed as that. They're is nothing iffy about new Echo saws, they have stuffed up mufflers and need to be tuned right as more and more new saws do these days. It takes me about 20 minutes to do both and then they pull just as good as any Stihl or Husky cc for cc. Steve

I agree, but then that 5 year warranty is gone. Stock vs Stock they don't stack up against the competition.

yes, and as our favorite Nord points out, there are independent, european, test labs, that have substatiated the numbers. most of those from H, S and D are pretty much dead-on. some claim that those numbers can't be trusted; that they lack credibility. if the labs are inflating the values, wouldn't you want your OPE to be tested and have an inflated number attached to it? i think the reason that echo doesn't submit to testing is, in-fact, the poor
P2W ratio of their US equipment. i am not blasting echo. i own an echo edger and it is a great little tool. i am sure their saws are very durable and perform adequately for a majority of people who buy one. but i don't think their performance is on par with S, H, D when it comes to power.

I never ran a reed valve Echo. All the older ones i am familiar with are Loop Scavening but i can't say for the newer ones. I would put my CS-1001 up against anything in its class. It sure might not have the specs on paper but it sure runs good...Bob

I'll agree you can't run a Echo with the factory carb settings and quite a few other saws also. If I was worried about a warrenty, most which blame the owner I'd pull the caps adjust and reinstall. If I wanted to modd the muff I'd find another one to mod, keep the orginal and put it back on if I ever had any trouble. Steve
