this is the saw i got the other night. i got it finished this morn. i did a MM and tuned it. Installed a new 3/8 pitch 7 tooth sprocket with a 18" b/c it had the 325 pitch on it. Also replaced the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Checked the fuel lines and impulse line and they looked like they had already been replaced. The p/c still looked new.The carb was in good condition and didn't need to be taken apart. It adjusted out great. It does need to be retuned after i run a tank through it since it had a 1/2 tank of old fuel in it. I dumped it and run it for about 5 minutes before i tuned it. IN the vid i am running it in hickory. It didn't cleanup as good as i was wanting it to when i took it apart but it does look ok. Least i don't have to worry about scratching it :D:D.I am going to try to find the right recoil/starter assembly for it to make the saw right. For a 54cc saw it runs good. Here is the before and after pics.

Cleaned up fairly well.

I'm curious......what do you talk to yourself about when you're cutting? :D

Sounds awful rich to me.

If the fuel line is not soft, you are asking for trouble. They get hard, and then crack right where they come out of the fuel tank.

the fuel line is like new nothing wrong with it. Like i said in the beginning of this thread i had just dumped the old fuel out and put in fresh and turned it up a bit. I had also said i need to retune it after i run a tank of fresh through it. I know it was a bit rich at first but it did lean out a bit after the first cut so i am leaving it for now and see how it does and then RETUNE IT

08,
NOT busting your chops, but you are ignoring perhaps the most sage person on the 1127's (sorry Fish). if that saw sat long enough to have varnished fuel, you are being penny-wise and pound-foolish.
show some close-ups of your MM.
it did clean-up well, good job. i don't know if i would bother swapping starters, but a different one with less stain would certainly change the looks of that whole saw.

I thought that the 029's were 54cc's and the 029super/ms290 were 56.

I've never tried Lysol with Bleach cleaner on the plastics but I wonder if it would clean up the white nice, it works great on ceramics. Spray on rinse off.

Looks better though

56.5 to be exact. Saw sounds great 3/8 chain on a 18" bar with thick hickory not to bad for a mid range saw. How does the ms290 compare to your echo's in the cut? I would also try a little bleach to see if it would clean up the starter but cut it with some water.

the 600p i just sold would smoke it

i know your not busting chops. There was absolutely no varnish in the tank or lines. The gas that i dumped out had a funcky old smell but was not discolored at all. If it wasn't for the bit of smell i would almost say it hadn't set but maybe 6 months at the most with the gas in it. i checked the fuel line and pulse line very closely. I would say they have been replaced very recently.Neither one was either mushy or brittle. The vent line looked new. So i was not concerned a bit about it

:agree2: swapping started would make it look a lot better. I am not done cleaning it yet. going to be working on it more in the future when i have more time

Jim, the Lysol w/Bleach I'm talking about comes in a spray bottle like windex bottles expect it's a white plastic spray bottle, no need to cut it with water but should be used in WELL ventilated area if you spray many times in same spot. It should clean that plastic up a lot better though.

Yea but isn't the 600p a pro saw? The ms361 would be closer to the 600p and we know which saw you like better. I guess I'm asking if maybe you have run a similar mid range echo and how it would compare to the ms290.

Right I know the product, I was advising if he used straight bleach to try to fade the stain to cut it with a little water, even though a bottle of bleach is mostly water anyway.

the only comparison i would say is the cs-530 i had. It was a 50cc saw and i would say the 290 would take it

Gotcha, the lysol probably contains more of other chemicals than bleach/water, never read the ingredients. That's why I run from it everytime I use it I guess.

i really thought about doing that but figured it would pit it bad and make it look worst. I just made a post on the wanted classifieds to see if anyone might have an extra assmbly and clutch cover too. The only other thing,,which is no big deal,is it has a 1/2" crack on the air cleaner cover which is hard to see

If you plan on getting another anyway it may surprise you that yours will probably clean up nice. I would take it apart and remove anything metal of it, then wet it then spray it down with the bleach stuff. Don't think it will hurt the plastic but again if your plan is to try to find another might as well try.

Would JB weld behind the filter cover prevent it from breaking it further?

Just thoughts of something I would attempt.

going to wait to see if someone on here has those 2 parts,,if not i will give that a try,,
going to use some 2 part apoxy on the backside of the cover. it will dry clear and that should keep it from cracking more
