Ok just traded a 40cc Troybuilt for for this thing so now it is mine.....

Now I think I'm going Nova II..

So is the Nova II (8786) on the bay the correct one for me to buy??????

Does any one know if there is only one Nova II????

Or is there a part number I can look for???????

I just put a wima in an old 031 av and it now starts ez, tachs at 13,900- not recommended and has a spark you could weld with.

Never tried a nova, but for a couple bucks the wima kicks!!!!

Just my 2 cents, I'm new at this.

I pulled the points and condenser last night.. I will be going NovaII... Just less maintenance down the road..

Southbound
Let me know how that NovaII works out for ya. I've gotta real nice 032AV sittin under the bench waitn her turn on the saw stand and would like to eliminate the points. She's got no spark right & I figure it's the condensor. Some pics of the install would be real sweet. Hint...hint

I am reading up on it more right now and it seems I will have to find a electric flywheel...

Anyone know if that is the case??? Will I also have to find a electric flywheel????

Man, if you have good points just put the WIMA in !!!! Heck, PM me your addy and I'll send you one FREE with the wire leads already soldered on!!!

The nova I believe requires re-timing with an electric fly wheel and replacing without the key.

If ya aint going to use your points send them toi me.

Just got a PM so it looks like I will be keeping the points...

Thanks redoakneck you

Now I work out of town during the week so I wont be able to do to much till next weekend...

Updates to come...

I have 2-3 032's and 1 031 that have Nova's in them right now. I never changed the flywheel's on them. I have not had a single issue with them. I mount the nova on top of the coil. I have zip tied them and clued them and I have not had any problems. Just my $.02

Second this. Bought an 031 for 5 bucks, installed an Atom module (as was available back then) and it became my best running 031.

One caution, if it won't start or run right, you may need to change the polarity of the module; i.e. swap the leads. The 031 is odd this way.

This is not my write-up. It was posted here 6 or 7 years ago and I kept it for reference. Fish would probably know where it originated.

That is really interesting. I got one of my 031s to "run" on a NOVA II but if you revved it up, it would shoot a huge flame out of the carb and exhaust......so I ripped that thing out.

Next I grabbed a stihl condenser that only failed at hot and reverse engineered it at work using about $20k worth of test equipment.....and found a cap made by Wima to be an exact match. I have had a WIMA cap in mine for about 3 years now. I have not even had to adjust the points in that time.

As CBFARMALL mentioned, if you wire it backwards, do to the ignition timing on the coil, it will not run right.

That is how it ran with the wires backwards. It would not rev at all with the wires the other way.....forwards I guess!

Ok been cleaning some of the crud off this saw and found the muffler to be loose..I removed and the seems to be something in it rattling around...

Thanks again..

So I know the short wire goes to ground but where does the long wire go???

I think it goes on the small bolt on the points??? That is where the bad condenser wire was..

Just want to make sure...

Ok so I did a little work on it tonight..

It is not pretty but I bet it stays in place...

Now for the bad.I noticed some smearing on the intake side if the cylinder wall..I also noticed a spring clamp like one would find on a heater hose on a car holding on the manifold....
So I pull the cylinder and guess what??? It is smoked:jawdrop::jawdrop:

So now I guess I'm on the hunt for a P&c...
