I wish I had some bigger wood to test in, but I do not, that video was taken at my neighbors place, he's got some locust that needed bucked up, but I've bucked nearly all of it. Finally got the B/C mounted on it today, did a little fiddling with the carb.

I'd rather be cutting wood than lighting of fireworks on the 4th.

Chris

Sounds like your saw turned out real good. Looks real good with that bar on there as well:msp_smile:. And I agree I would rather run my saws than light off fireworks.

Log book, in more ways than one, I assume.

There are some hardwoods around here that get to be that size. Sycamore is very common to get that size, atleast in girth. Some of the largest trees in the east are Sycamore. Little to no commericial value.

Up on the hill from me there are a few oaks that have to be 4.5-5 feet base diameter, although not very tall they are quite large trees.

I am sure you have taken much largers specimens in your day.

Was the tree used for lumber, or was it just a removal?

Chris

More or less the same down here to. Oak get thick but not that tall. Got to watch for hollow trees with the oak, just took down a large oak at my parents and one part was 36ish" dia. with only about 3" of actual wood keeping it standing. Sadly enough I did not get to practice my falling or climbing skills on this, as it was pulled over. Very sketchy tree with no solid wood at the base.

most of that Pine went to the mill at Calpine, after milling, the lumber went to the molding plant at Fall River mills. I took 26 OG trees from a summer cabin area, if the logs could be moved, they were milled, if not, firewood.
The USFS owned and had nominal control over the land. The cabin owners petitioned to have trees removed, for various reasons, the Feds put it off, until a big limb went through a roof. I bought the trees from the Feds, charged the cabin owners to remove them, kept the trees. I made out like a bandit.

Some, like this White Fir, were in poor condition. It started to come apart while still vertical, as you can see, I wasn't done sawing on it.

I have spent that last hour or so working on the carb for the 890, and I am stumped. I have cleaned every orifice, and blew everything out. It is not leaking fuel like it was, but it isnt pumping fuel either. I have a clear fuel line so I can see what it is doing when I try to start it. The primer is not drawing fuel, and putting the choke on wont pull fuel. If I pour a little fuel down the throat it will fire and pull fuel into the carb, but as soon as the fuel I poured runs out it dies. So somewhere in the carb the fuel is being stopped. The only thing I have not done is pull the welch plugs, maybe the problems there, but for now I am stumped.

Brian, Doe's your carb still have the filter in the carb?
I have seen them so plugged you can't get fuel in the carb.
Also, Make sure you have the correct carb mounting gasket.
I have seen two different types where the pulse hole
is in a different location. Ask me how i know.

Just a thought

Hey guys here's my 1-76 finished off with a nice NOS 31" Mac bar from Mark H.

This is a link to a VIDEO, by the way.

Nice shirt. We should start a sawing while shirtless thread.

The saw sounds wicked good. I had the sound way up, the dogs jumped.

I wish I could help you Brian, I am worthless with the innerds of carbs.
Me to LOL.

My first thought was that it was the pulse hole, but when I pour fuel in the throat and get it started, it will pull fuel to the carb. So if I am correct that should rule out the pulse hole being blocked. But, until I put fuel in the carb and get it to fire it wont pull fuel at all, so maybe its not ruled out. It looked like the hole was in the right location. The filter seems to flow fine when I pulled the carb and cleaned it. If its not the impulse hole, the only other thing I can think of would be something is plugged under the welch plug. I still have not been able to find any IPL on this carb, so I cant order plugs with any certainty that they will be correct LOL. I am still looking for a replacement carb, for the time being I will continue to try and get this one sorted out.

Just thought of this, when I got the needle and seat to seal I stretched the spring a little to insure a seal. Is it possible that its not allowing fuel to pass through? After I first did it it ran good though. It wasnt until it sat for a few days it started to not pull fuel.

I'm the first member of the Shirtless Sawyers. I just wanted to keep the focus on the saw, I knew most fellas would turn away and focus on the yellow when they saw my long, sinewy torso.

I reckon that saw has to sound good, I probably have 12 hours labor in it.

That saw really pulls hard. I don't have the proper piece of timber for it though.

I'm surprised at the speed at which it cuts. Can't wait to find a chunk to do it justice.

You need a new spring. They get weak, and bending them or stretching them rarely works, in my experience. Could be the needle is junk, sometimes fuel will get to them after a couple days like that if they were marginal or of poor quality. If it has an impulse line you should be able to draw the diaphragm down to allow fuel through by sucking on it.

Well, we have three members, that is all we need to start a club.:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Wont be able to join that club LOL. If I take my shirt off outside I can hear the sizzle!! Not to mention anybody flying overhead thinks I am sending distress signals.

Needle and seat are new. For some reason I stopped getting fuel through the carb. Not really sure where the problem is at the moment. Dosnt have an impulse line, just a port in the carb. Lever is set correctly, has been thoroughly cleaned. This one is just being a pia LOL.
