Just wondering your input on a STIHL MS362C i'm looking at buying. I guess the The "C" model means it requires no tools to adjust the chain. saws 3 years old w a 20" bar. He has 6 chains that will come with it. Saw runs like new. Let me know what youwould give for this saw? He's asking 525 obo. Thanks

Ms362c?

I don't know, but that doesn't look like a 362 to me... more like a 361, and a pretty well used one at that. No way I'd pay that much for it.

I agree with the above comments. If the seller wants anywhere near $575 he/she should put a new bar on it....and list it on eBay. That's the only way it'll sell for anywhere near that price. I'd say $400 max. Personally, I wouldn't want it at all with the quick adjust tensioner cover on the side.

:agree2:

The only good thing is that it is a 361, and not a 362.

It is a 361. The 361 is lighter than the 362 and that's why everyone prefers the 361. If you were going to go with a 362, at that weight you might as well step up to a larger saw because you can find more powerful models (and more expensive) at the heavier weight.

As far as price, I did a quick look on craigslist and there are a lot of them listed that are more expensive:

STIHL MS361 PRO CHAIN SAW NEW
Stihl MS361 chainsaw
Stihl MS 361 Chainsaw
Stihl MS 361

I believe the quick adjust adds about $50 to the new purchase price. So the asking price doesn't seem bad.

ms361c

ok yes it is a ms361c, i did ask him to look and he said it is. now, what would you offer for the saw and 5 spare used chains? i could prob get him down to 500 im not sure bout anything less than that though.

For $500 you can get a nice 044 or 372, and either will trounce the 361 handily. You could probably find a NEW 359 husky for that price, and get a warranty with it.

You get what you pay for. There is a reason Stihl's of that size sell for over $700 with tax. The construction quality of the husky doesn't begin to compare with the Stihl. You can get an echo or a Poulan for less cost than a Stihl, too. What's the point? He was asking what the Stihl MS361 is worth and for that you have to see what they generally sell for used. That's the only apples to apples comparison.

I'd say if you can get it for $525 or $500 you would have a very nice saw at a decent price.

You are right, I know nothing. Glad you learned everything in 4 posts. I'm sure you have had all of the saws in question apart and seen the inner workings of each (like I have.) The 359 is every bit as good as the 361, and I am a Stihl guy. And yes, you can get an Echo called a CS-600P which is a very good saw and comparable to the 361. The answer here is that a whipped 361c is not worth $500. I was simply pointing out how much more saw one can get for $500. Are you the guy selling the 361?

Dude...the saw only sold for $600 when NEW..!! I'd value it at $400 MAX...(really $375)

Just save up some a little more $$ and buy a NEW ms362..!!

Buy a 6-pack of Syn oil and double the warranty to 2 years..!!

And the chain adjuster is a liability rather than an asset..!!

Your call..!!

I love people

I agree that 500 is too much, and the fact that it is a "C" actually detracts from the value, even though it originally cost a little extra!

My point as well. Our Canadian prices are higher on comparable items than in the US and where I've seen nicer looking 361 saws selling around $450. That one in the photo would bring about $400, if that.

As far as knocking the Husky as being lesser than a Stihl based on the brand itself? That is just plain silly.:biggrin::biggrin:

I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from.

So you can tell from a photo that a saw is "whipped?" Based on what...missing paint on a bar? So what if the seller puts a new bar on it...what then? Now because it has a purdy new bar suddenly its no longer "whipped?" Its the same powerhead. Nothing changed. You can't tell anything from a photo and certainly can't draw conclusions based upon the amount of paint on a bar. Better advice would be to suggest the guy go look at it and then he can get an idea of the condition. Start it up...run it, etc.

As for the price....for $225 - $250 more he can buy a new MS362. A pro logger or someone cutting continuously might not mind spending $750 for a new saw. Other folks may opt for a used pro saw and save some cash. To each his own.

I prefer to buy used pro saws and have come across some nice deals that have made it worth the wait to have a great saw for a good price. The going price around here for a good used 360/361 is between $250 and $400 depending on condition, and that includes the amount of paint loss on the bar. If I am going to spend any money in the $500 to $550 range I will be picking up a minty 064 or a real nice 066, 460, 440... or anything better looking and more powerful than that 361. Not to dog your saw that you are selling but I personally would not buy it.
