2 strokes are on their way out fast.

Was it not Honda that lobbied to rid the racing world of smokers?

Better check your facts there fella, the only husky on those bikes is the name. a little german company known as BMW makes those bikes now........because just like their saws they were/are not capable of doing it on their own:msp_tongue:

On the cycle, I was talking about a few years ago bubba! :msp_rolleyes:

I'll stick with the Swedish saws myself. You can use whatever ya like...

Yes,Honda is a fourstroke company. In the world of dirt,Honda hasn't had a good machine since '92.Some years had good engines and horrible everything else, other years the opposite. The final years they were the bottom feeders of the class but then all their development was going to the CRF250 and CRF450 so it was hardly surprising.
My main riding buddy has always had Honda's-and still does but even he shakes his head as to what was Honda quality and what is now. With the exception of this year(supposedly anyway)the 250's are well known as unreliable grenades, the 450's tend to fare better though even they have had their share of issues.
Honda has and does make some very good machines-they also make some very poor unreliable ones-exactly the same as most manufacturers.Whenever I hear "If it's a Honda it has to be good" I just roll my eyes-and stand in awe of their marketing department.:msp_wink:

BTW,I've currently got a 350ES 4wd Rancher and it's been a good machine.I've had to replace parts here and there but I've been happy-and it's a quality machine.I just wish it had more ground clearance and disc brakes-like every other quad on the palnet.

I basically agree here. The brightest spot AFAIC was the 2001 CR250R, the last of their reed valved 2-stroke 250s (they went case-reed afterwards). 2nd gen aluminum frame wasn't bad (after normal suspension tweeks) and Honda finally stopped trying to mimic the KX mid-burst motor and made a free-revving mid-&-up screamer that was really fun to ride. If it weren't for the all-dominant YZ250 motor (essentially the same ten years later - EXCELLENT motor), I'd have picked the '01 CR as the best that year.

They would be just like their wheelers and bikes, so under powered they would make a Stihl look like a AA nitro funny car.....

:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Hop on a cbr1000rr and then say underpowered...4 wheelers are pretty bad though!

Kawasaki should make a quad/saw combo with the brute force as the template....

Meh. No rice burners in my garage.
Harley, John Deere, Ford, Polaris. Not saying they are better than other brands but I try to avoid sending my money to Asia.:flag:

BTW- say a prayer for Pearl Harbor today.

Before Honda pulled out of the 2 stroke market...the CR250 was one of the top winning bikes in AMA motocross. Jeremy McGrath rode the steel framed model (and won the overall championship) for several years on a steel framed CR250 after the aluminum model was out. It wasn't too long after he was made to switch the the newer "better" model that he quit riding Honda's.

As far as a saw...it would be four-stoke, under powered, over engineered (it would have gps and a cup holder) and would cost $2000. It would smooth and refined, you wouldn't even be able to hear it running, it would have a complex catalytic converter and produce no emmission, it would have a hybrid drive system with an electric motor and backup battery and have no charachter as all!

Got a Ford myself...but gotta say the japanese are innovators. China, not so much....but they are know for intellectual thievery:msp_biggrin:

Japan is, imo, an ally and a friend of the US now...and the past is the past. If it weren't, i don't think many german saws would be sold....just sayin.

I am an old fart but did own the first GSXR 1100 (~1986) that hit this part of the world, yeah the Honda's were gutless back then just as the wheelers are today.......I have not been on a bike (other than my Kaw 650 former USMC dirt bike) in 20 years because I'm not grown up enough to ride anymore.

For me driving a bike is a lot like running a saw, the throttle becomes a digital signal and not an analog signal, it has two positions for me.....off for stopping and WFO.......for going, there is no in-between.....

I am not grown up enough anymore either (don't think I ever was)...

Plus I think hondas now are not as powerful as the Yamaha's or especially the kawasaki's, but man they can still fly!

I have no beef with Japan and hell, I lived in Germany for 5 years and really liked it there. Seeing 'made in China' on everything is pretty annoying though. :censored:
I just try to put my money where my mouth is and buy as much local/made is usa products as I can. I think if we all did that it would help.

I do that as well...bout the only things still made here are guns, bullets, and flashlights. So I buy a lot of those, you know, for the American economy's sake:msp_biggrin:
