McCuloch 10-10 Auto

Hi guys
Is there anywhere on this planet, a fuel tank gasket for my 1975 10-10 Auto? I see lots of part numbers listed on various sites, but no luck. I know I can make one, but would rather find a new one. The saw works great (I've had it since 1982, new) and has only about 10 hours on it.
One other question: how big a bar can I use on it without losing cutting power?
BTW, the gasket part # is 69345, as I'm sure most of you know.
Thanks for anyone's help.

Hi alpine and welcome to AS.

Don't know if you'll ever find that gasket.

You can search this thread and find how Joey sealed up those style tanks with 3M 'body accent' foam tape. I have a PM700 he did and no leaks.

I've also recently used a product called Red-Kote and am very happy with the results.

As far as bar size goes, I've used 18" or 20" in all types of wood. But I don't push these saws very hard, either.

Terry are you going to come down for our GTG on the first weekend of November? Hoping you are.:msp_thumbup:

I'm on the hunt Elk/Deer tags this year with my new DPMS saw, running .308 with a 24" bull barrel bar:rock: I can send some goodies for give-aways indeed. Send me the seb address cuz if I send yellow to RM...you'll get a different saw:hmm3grin2orange:

Good thinking. Thanks Terry! Will miss you at the GTG. PM inbound.

I decided to freshen up my sp81 today. I found a surprise inside. First off, it's a "A" cylinder which is the first time I've seen one. The piston is also "A". The surprise is, some jack wagon has honed all the chrome out if the cylinder! The scarey thing is, I've run this saw quite a bit. Mark had also run it. You can see the hone marks inside the cylinder and leading into the cylinder. What looks like piston transfer is actually missing chrome. Thankfully the piston is in good shape.

Stay tuned....

What a maroon................

People do some STUPID #### to chainsaws. I see that it's a late SP-81 or PM850 cylinder as it has the dividers in the ports. I don't know what my SP-81's have in 'em yet, but I will when I tear 'em down. The NOS cylinder that I have has the dividers in the ports.

That explains why it was the weakest of all my 82cc macs.

I've been using the sp80 and the pm800 so far this year for cutting. I just cleaned those two saws and put them back on the shelf. I decided to rotate the sp81 and pm805 into action for the next couple months. I'm sure glad that i tore into this one. It would not have run long in this summer heat.

Previously when I've run it, it was for a short time. With out the plating it wouldn't have run long after it got hot.

I will be cutting a pine off of someone's back deck tomorrow. I'll get it tuned in and broke in and hopefully get a video made.

BTW, new parts list is...

Fuel cap gasket
Fuel cap duck bill
Exhaust gasket
Clutch drum bearing
Inner bar plate/shield
Cylinder
Crank case
Piston
Rings
Wrist pin bearing
Small side crank bearing
Both crank seals
Oiler gasket
Metal clip for oiler body
Front and rear AV mounts
Air filter
Spark plug

Also used hondabond to seal every where and lock tite for all fasteners with new external tooth lock washers. It is now converted to electronic ignition. All in about 3 hours.

It's running a 20"bar .404 chain and a 8 tooth sprocket. It should be real fun to cut with. It still looks like the same old ugly saw though. I can't wait for my Stihl buddy's to try out the "old slow Mac".

Joey
