Ouch that's crazy. My dealer here out east will get it for a little over $400 a roll. I've never measured stacks when cutting but have got as much as 2 gallons of mix through a 395 on one chain sharpening.

They have been the biggest Stihl dealer in this area for almost 2 decades, and they told me they have NEVER SOLD SQUARE FILE BEFORE!

$500+ is list. If you have spent some cash in there before, they should be able to a bit better than that. ;)

I ask for all kind of good stuff from my dealer, they smile and order it up for me. No problem.

I wish I had that relationship with them, but they often want list on big items. Ironically, they are extremely good at getting me all kinds of small parts for next to nothing. Does not make sense to me, but I can't seem to change it.

For example, they sell HD-2 filters (044/046) for under $31 which I hear is a very good deal, carb rebuild kit for 044 - less than $15; new hi/lo speed springs for 044 $2.50. You would think they would bargain on the big items?????

Fresh saw and wood to cut....hells yes!!! :chainsaw: If I thought I could get a port job on my 660 I would, just don't like thinking about screwing myself out of a warranty. The 038 is a good candidate....:D

By the way, where did you get the full wrap handle bars from?

what the h@ll is a warranty? Randy voids them before I ever run the saws for the first time. Never had a single saw failure.

Brian, to you it is slow, because you make yours almost like a race chain. To me it is the fastest work chain I have ever run.

Maybe in time I'll be with ya, but you gotta walk before you can run. I'm still learning, and based on what I heard before I got square file I'm just happy I can sharpen it w/o any screw ups!

Out of curiosity, how many years you been using square?

Ok need some help here. Goin with a 20" sugihara on my ported 362 and looking at square chisel in rslhk, rslfk, and rslk. I know they r in order , half skip, full skip, and full comp. Which would be best for my setup in hardwood?

Full-comp. Other than fewer teeth to sharpen, no benefit from skip on a 20"/362.

Go Stihl, the chain is harder and will stay sharp longer, I have full, 20" on my 362 and everyone seems to like it. (the 1st order was RSLK, the second one they said they don't make that any more and it was RSL ... they are both the same as far as I can tell). FYI, K stands for Classic, L for Square.

I also think Stihl generally comes sharper than Oregon, so you will know what it is supposed to cut like the first time you use it. Your 461 will really love it.

Took the baffle out of the 046 today. Feels good, but I will have to wait till I can try it on something other than a rain soaked log.

my 362 cut better with 24" skip chain than it did with 18" full comp. Cant help but think it may rip on the 20" bar with half skip square?
