Sometimes on the weekends I'll leave my garage door open while going in and out through out the day and every time I go in I glance over at my saws and think, wow it will take less than a minute to grab one or a couple and even when I'm not around during the day someone can break in and grab them. Although there isn't much crime where I live the low lives still come around and we have the occasional break in, usually quick hit and runs so I locked them up, most thieves are lazy opportunist and would not work if they had to.

I was but haven't the last month or so been keeping them under the shelter I park the truck under need to quit being lazy and get back into it

I keep mine behind a crate that makes them visible only from in the garage looking out but I will chain them in the bed of my truck if I have to go to the store.

I have not been robbed but we have had metal thieves strike nearby. I have been more diligent about keeping things under lock and key. I have been locking the couplers on my trailers (at least most of the 8 trailers I have), I am keeping my splitter inside unless I'm actually using it, my saws are usually in my shop which is kept locked most of the time and has no windows. We don't lock our garage but don't keep small valuable stuff in there. I'm trying to be pro active ahead of time rather than reacting to an incident. We do have a dog and dogs help a lot with security.

I dont quite live in the sticks and not really in the city either..i guess they call it the suburbs , but pittsburgh is an odd area , from downtown you can drive 15 minutes and get on some roads that would make you think your in a hank williams music video and then appear in civilization again

anyway..i know dogs are good deterents however , in my area heroin and pills are about as easy to buy as a loaf of bread and milk which naturally puts theft through the roof..the walmart 8 miles from my home had the highest retail theft in the nation for a few years.. there is actually a police station in the same building as the walmart , there was a gang of guys robbin about anything they could and had it down to a science..they would carry some sort of animal sedative to eliminate the dog factor..crazy i know..around here i keep them locked up good and make sure the local thieves know they have a promise for an ass beating that would leave them sorry they even made the effort , since about 2003 when the narcotics hit hard its just been on the rise year by year , prior to that year i thought nothing of leaving my windows down and the keys in the ignition with a book of CD's on the seat and whatever else was there..i wouldnt dream of it now..its an epidemic here , every telephone pole has a " have an addiction problem " poster along with a phone number stapled to it... it seems no matter the effort you make the thieves come up with a new scheme..i hope i never get hit , id be crushed to lose all the money in saws.

I was on a construction job years ago and got the tripod vise and porta-band set out. Went back to the gang box to get an extension cord, about 75ft away, and when I returned the saw was gone. It can happen fast if someone has a mind to pilfer. Whats crazy it there were about 2-dozen construction workers milling around and nobody saw a darn thing. Generally speaking I try to be cautious but if security becomes a PITA we all know what we'll do. Most thieves tend to take the easy path. Its in their nature. Think about it, if they WORKED they could EARN instead of STEEL. Unlocked doors whether the truck, garage or house are an easy target. Make it inconvenient or unpleasant and they'll hunt elsewhere.

I hear ya..my dad has had rolls of coil , brakes , ladders , picks , ladder jacks and all kinds of **** stolen over the years , the scrap yards now require a valid drivers liscense for any scrap sold..i dont do the " call the cops " thing , its a waste anyway , street justice usually gets served to all the thieves ..but even that doesnt do much..i just hope my saws never become victims..id have to have 4 arms to get the names of lost friends to the needle tattooed on them , sad..but true..i even had an axe ordered by my stihl dealer that was stolen the day it came in..how i have no clue !
