Would this cause my saw to score the piston?

Hi all thanks for viewing. I have a real dumb question, I have a 346 that I was thinking had a air leak. check out this video and let me know if I run it how long will it take to toast my saw? thanks

the partition has a nipple on it, the boot slips over the plastic nipple and acts as a kinda gasket. if the plastic nipple breaks off the partition she'll leak something fierce. really ****** design. wish all had a separate impulse line off a nipple in the case. easy fix though. just get a new partition and swap it out. the nipple breaks when someone careless installs the boot on the cylinder twisting and forcing.

This saw has a newer intake partition and boot . It was leaking at the base gasket directly under the boot {which I doubt} or at the bottom of the intake where the boot joins the jug. I sprayed the soapy water all around the impulse and had no sign of a leak at that spot.

don't take the chance. this is a VERY easy fix so not worth it. also don't rule out that broken nipple. even a crack will make it leak. they be tricky cause it doesn't show a leak right at the outside nipple. the inside nipple leaks but from the outside it looks like the leak is coming from around where the partition and boot meet. it is the most common leak on the 346 intake in my experience.

unless of course this thing has a cut base and someone went lathe happy taking to much off the base. there is a thread near the top right now with a pic of one that was gone to far with.

Thanks for the replys. I always like to hear what some of the resident AS experts have to say.
I have had {three} 346 and several 350's.
I just got this one back from a port job and I am so thankfull that I did'nt run it. I made that video today after I unboxed it. Needless to say I was a bit :baba:disappointed to hear that the saw was " running great but marking the piston" and " no... I did'nt do a pressure/vac test because I am too meticulous when I put saws together for there to be any air leaks" .Then was told: " you can richen it up to compensate for the air leak. that's how A/T saws do it"..who is this guy:numberone: and how much would you pay to port my saw?:buttkick::ices_rofl::ices_rofl::ices_rofl:
Yeah right. I have been through too many toooooo many husqvarnas and seen this same thing in well over a dozen saws{air leaks that cause drastic scoring and roach the saw}

I was just looking back in my PM's and .050 is what he says was taken off the base. I never cut my base or squish bands when I port my saws I dont have the means to do it. That was why I was sending this one off to have work done to it. Looks like I should have just kept my runner.

sounds like that guy ****ed up a perfectly good saw. wouldn't be sending him anything again if he's gonna be foolish enough to send it back like that. his name would be ruined. if it was over machined you'll have to get creative to seal it up. if it wasn't over done on the base i still wouldn't rule out the broken nipple. pull it apart. i wouldn't be sending it back to that guy but i would be fix'n for a full refund.

This happened to be a good running saw. I bought a "good condition " cylinder from a person and sent saw to have worked over and put the ''new' pported jug on.

I am not that mad per say. I just would have expected more and think that saws in question for air leaks would get checked. Also I was expecting a saw that ran when it comes home, not one I had to immediately tear apart to make right before I smoked it.

I am going to use some hondabond HT to reveal the cylinder and use a smear around the boot as well. then I will check again. I hope that the jug base isn't cut too low and maybe this can still work out.

the person should get a fair shake before their name is smeared. It may be an honest mistake.
Really ??

Here is the fair shake ............

" no... I did'nt do a pressure/vac test because I am too meticulous when I put saws together for there to be any air leaks" .Then was told: " you can richen it up to compensate for the air leak. that's how A/T saws do it"..

The porter should be named and shamed for this reply, and his lack of responsibility. When a customer communicates that there is a leak and is told to "richen it up like AT's do" ........................ thats a totally unacceptable piss poor reply !

#1. The porter should not have sent the saw back with an air leak
#2. The porter should have instructed subhunter to send the saw immediately back to him so the problem could be fixxed
(All well and good up untill this point, but the porters response necessitates #3)
#3. The porters reply necessitates the worst lambasting he has ever seen ................... what a garbage reply for crappy work and a lazy attitude.

I dont give a free flyin frogs fart who the porter is ................. that is one suck-azz reply !

Let me say this: I am not a known ccomplainer.

I wasn't going to even mention this predicament at all on the open board, until I was told that above about richen the saw up. I cut trees three or four days a week normally about 8 months a year. I didn't have time to take and build this saw but seems like that is what is going to take place. The good thing I guess .... I get some more practice on a hell of a saw

Even if you were the worst complainer on AS, or anywhere else .............. you sent out a saw for porting and got back the saw with a cut base and a leaky intake boot at the base ................ a well known problem for this saw (this model is known to have a flat spot where the intake boot is clamped when the base is cut). You tried to communicate with the porter, giving him a fair shake at trying to make amends for a mistake. We all make mistakes, its how we own up to them that matters

His reply makes me want to puke.

Who is the porter ?

Yeah let's kick him around a little. lol. Let's get a lynch mob air leak boy, I'm going to go get on my sheet and pillow case right now.
that's what I'm screaming..... not!!!!! in fact that was the reason I had not named any names.I just got ticked off after somebody tried to give me the runaround when I've been fooling with saws for years.
