Ok boys I'm still waiting on some drills but I'm gonna go ahead and do the oiler mod. There's a few threads on here of how to do this but simply unscrew the white cap. Pull out the spring and rod. Mill the end of the rod market with an M 10° steeper. Polish smooth with sand paper and reassemble. That little step right that makes quite a difference in the way these oil. View attachment 446623

Is the ball bearing stuck in the cap, or does the 7910 not have it?

They like to jump out and roll across the floor.

Ha, yeah i was wondering.

I'm set on the HF, but I keep finding other things to buy in the mean time.
video i posted was a pretty sad one but it at least gave you an idea. The belt was wore out and needed replaced so it would stall out easy. I am still using mine with no problems except for replacing the belt. I will say that next time i am going to try different bands other than cooks. I have 2 skids full of poplar we milled up and that stuff was a breeze. Hickory....not so much. It is all getting turned into firewood from now on.

@MillerModSaws Not to derail any further but when you tearing into a 421. I'm really curious to see a 421 against a 260 stock and ported. See if my seat of the pants feelings hold up to video proof
It's coming. The 6100s will be first. But let me get football and softball season outta the way and then I'll hit the saws hard. As you see this threads taking me a little while. Lol. However I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna go back in this saw. Coil mod and carb mod away from a vid. :)

Ok boys you ready to finish this up. If i have any carb experts here please tell me what the numbers on the carb mean. Ones a 7910 the other is a 7310. 20150913_134704.jpg

When I first got this saw going I had lost my L control. So I modded the carb to the same spec you would a 7910 carb. That was a fail. So my next step was I used a brand new 7910 carb and she tuned out perfectly.

I also made this saw unlimited coil using the 272xp coil. @Poleman gave a beautiful set of instructions that I almost followed. Lol. You can see I have several marks there what that is. Is the sharpened fin is my TDC mark. The far right grind mark is 5°. The other marks are 25,30,35,40 degrees. What I did was using a piston stop I rolled the engine to 5° btdc. I had a degree wheel on it so I new where that was. I then lined my flywheel at 35° with the key ground off, I put the flywheel on. It was nice being able to hold the engine against the piston stop. This set my timing at 30° btdc. I tightened it all up and double checked it with the degree wheel. That's the quick cliff note version. Lol. 20150913_163312.jpg

I ran 2 tanks of gas threw this saw today and I Am impressed. The bad news is my comparison saw is in Kentucky with wiggs for his gtg. Lol. However I'm gonna give ya my thoughts anyway. With a 24" bar you would be hard pressed to say a 7310 is any less of a saw then the 7910. IMO. The 7910 seems to sport just a tad more torque but it's not real apparent till you reach a 28" bar. This saw was holding 12000-12200 in oak which is right where the 7910s I do like to run.

OILER MOD! I put a full tank of oil and 3/4 a tank of gas the first go. Well I almost ran out of oil before gas. And anyone that has ran one of these ported knows there not easy on gas. Lol. So I turned the oiler down just a tad and filled here back up. When I stopped I had about 1/4 tank off fuel and just a little over a 1/4 tank of oil. So I highly recommend this simple mod.

UNLIMITED COIL. Well here's my thought. This makes the saw so much easier to tune it's not funny. In the vid that saw is still running really rich. However if your cutting in hard wood all the time you can absolutely get bye without this mod. My last cuts where in maple and this mod was really nice cause the saw was running about 13300 in the cut with light pressure so it would have been bouncing off the rev limiter if this mod wasn't done. Or you would have had to just simply push on the saw a bit harder. Lol.

That has been my thought all along.

As I have said before, I can hear things other people can't but the changes in a saw is not one of them when trying to tune it. The unlimited coil was an immense help and really let the saws come into their own.

To me it was pointless to have a hot rod saw that was hamstrung by the coil....that I had problems tuning. I can read a tach....problem solved and it lets the saws run were they are meant to.
