Would love to go full bush hermit; buy a bush block, cut/push some roads in, make a clearing, drop and mill enough trees to build a small, off-grid dwelling far away from the insanity of society. Would be a pretty satisfying project.

Had a fair bit of correspondence with Warren Lucas. Seems like a good bloke.

And who did mr Lucus work for previously,,,, mr Peterson, the rest is history. Warren Lucus has made a name for himself by producing an honest simple and basic portable sawmill designed for the part time user with limited sawing ability.
I have met men who think the Lucus mill is s#ht, my answer to them is they have no idea and can't saw for s#it, they can do a great job.

Someone told me not that long ago the court case was still going between those two. I don't have dates but wouldn't be surprised if it is now well over a decade of litigation. There's also a few gems on google if anyone cares to google legal action surrounding a few of the Petersons. And if you know the right people, there's a wealth of info bubbling away just under the surface. It doesn't paint some Petersons in a good light but I do feel for the good'ns in that clan, because nobody can choose who they are related to and the good'ns just don't deserve to be lumped in with the others, in my opinion.

Should have an update of where my sawmills woes have ended up, in a week or two. I can't wait mate. It's been a long road and I'm almost there.

How'd you get on with Logosol? Are they still making the frame saws from unobtainium?

I'd like to propose the inaugural AS down-under Mens Shed meeting be held at yours.

When it happens you're invited Tony! We can talk about new sawmilling ideas, I have thought of a few interesting ones over the years. May end up building one when I become a half decent machinist some day.

Nice, if the stars are aligned in my favour and the gods smile upon me I hope to pick one up this coming weekend [emoji3]

Fingers crossed Will! Every man in his shed needs access to a lathe of some sort or know a bloke with one.

Do you reckon the more we drink the better the sawmill ideas will seem? Have certainly learned more about sawmills than I ever wanted to and am confident we could come up with something special. There is a beam that weighs about 15 kgs, spans 8m, fits inside a small backpack and takes under 5 seconds to erect. Trouble is, it costs about $80k ;-). Then there is the 12kg powerplant that produces 80Nm (continuous) torque that isn't crazy expensive. How about the sawmill that doesn't need a gearbox?

Rescued another lump of cast iron. Should come in handy for the odd round thing.

Just leave it on the trailer Rudi, i'll be down over the weekend to take that off your hands, I could easily clean up a place to fit it, I have the big cord in the shed so alls good. can't have enough lathes......:)

Yes I have been talking to the new aust agent, waiting for him to get one onto his property, set it up and try it out, then he has invited me to fly down and he take me out to have a run and get some time on it for a better decision, he is actually trying to learn the machines too which will help sales immensely.

Chineese rip off,,,,,,, what are you saying..... um that the Bummer ag 92cc professional easy start saw is designed by professionals for professionals... to do a professionals job all day every day.:havingarest:

I've seen these Baumr AG's.

Baumr, being a very German sounding word, the initials AG, a German term meaning something like a Proprietor Limited Company, but not a German made part on the thing....probably not even designed there...........must be quality still hey.....especially for the inflated Chinese prices being asked.

Oh most definitely, many of the worlds problems have been solved over a few cold ones or more than a few in many cases

And yes there is a lot of good technology out there, just have to marry it all together and make something awesome somehow.

No worries Neil, not far to drive for you. I'll even include a 6 pack for the trip home :D

That poor trailer was actually involved in an accident and it was only 2 days old but very lucky. Had an old bloke on a 10 ton forklift to help load the lathe. He wanted to load it outside which involved a ramp and more downhill after that. He was driving down the ramp jokingly saying "I hope we have brakes" Turns out he didn't and it all went downhill from there... literally. Luckily the trailer stopped the forklift after a few feet of skidding sideways. The lathe sandwiched in between. The old bloke was white as a ghost. After all that the trailer only got a few scratchers and the tie rail has a small bend in it. You can hardly see the bit of damage in the pic. The lathe survived scratch free with only a small dint in the sheet metal pan. Truly a miracle.

Moral of the story: don't joke about brakes on heavy equipment lol

It's it ironic that the word Baum is German for tree. So it's a treer saw.
