Hell, my newest saw (a MS201T) already looks old because of Hedge staining. I take care of my equipment because I don't like pissing investments away, BUT, they are tools and I use them as such. I like watching cookie racing, but I cut firewood... And pie.

Hooray for Pie!!

I am having trouble keeping up here...
is it stained because the saw is so awesome he pooped the trou?
or
is it stained because the Hedge is so wicked scary?
or
is it stained because he is somehow chewing through the logs with his rectum?

I guess it is only wrong if somebody polishes the log on the jobsite

I about spit coffee on my PC reading that... LMAO

Just realized I didn't clean my saw after that five minute trim. Been oily sawdust gack inside the chain path for over a week, oh noes! Will have to try and remember to clean that out, and 3 in 1 coat the chain. And shop rags under the saw, toolbox handle well is filling with oil again.

the voices in my head tell me to buy chainsaws
I use a leather strop to polish my chain, or I have one of the servants do it if I am feeling generous.
They get such a sense of purpose from a job well done.

On a more ridiculous subject I am having trouble finding a shop that will chrome plate Magnesium, any metallurgists know why?

You can polish mag ,but i think the chrome would peel ,or the mag would catch on fire and burn the guys shop down ,take a file and shave some mag off a case ,then hold a long sticked match to it and see what happens ,just do not look at it without welding mask on .

Chrome plate is done via electroplating chromic acids of various sorts. As magnesium in an alkaline metal, and reactive in air/moisture, you have all sorts of issues. You can try and dig through what I found here. http://www.finishing.com/71/52.shtml but it all reads about like this.

"
Magnesium can be plated by either using the zincate route or by direct plating. The zincate path uses an alkaline cleaner, followed by a chromic acid dip and another dip in phosphoric acid and fluoride. This is followed by a fluoride loaded zincate bath and Rochelle copper to about 5µm. The magnesium is then plated in electroless nickel.

The direct plating path is an alkaline soak, followed by a dip in 150 g/l CrO3 with a proprietary additive. This is followed by another dip in 15% HF at 25 °C and direct electroless nickel. The direct electroless nickel is a mixture of NiCO3/HF/ citric acid/NH3HF/ sodium hypophosphite/ NH4OH at about 85 °C "

I'm thinking that process probably involves a LOT of messing around, man hours, cost, etc.

Good job! Some people don't care about a deep cleaning and detailed and I really respect that, however they may not have the passion for a nice looking saw! Again, I respect everyone's choice. [emoji106]
