Hey folks!

I have been fortunate to recently acquire some great older muscle saws ( Stihl 090AV, Stihl 066 Magnum, Stihl 034 Magnum and Husky 272xp). What is the thought on starting to use ethanol free fuel/oil mix in these saws when I am pretty sure the PO's were using street gas/oil mix? Everything I read tells me to go this way, but I wonder about making the transition. Any potential problems?
Many thanks for supporting this new obsession!!!!!

Yep, change over to ethanol free asap. You'll have way fewer problems. Get mid (89) or high octane (93) if available, if not I seem to have good luck with 87 octane.

We only have 87 octane E-Free gas here.

I don't retune due to octane ratings. Never had any issues. :innocent:
My Buddy tunes mine.
Went to do hurricane clean up years ago and the saws were t running right when we got there.
Called him..."you use 87 octane?"
I asked and that's what the guys got.
Put in 93 and they roared.........which is what he tuned them on.
Stihl recommended hi test.

Do a Google search in your area. I drive about 10 minutes to a local fuel company to get mine. I get 5 gal. at a time. Mix 2.5 for saws and the rest for mower and such. I just feel it's worth the effort to avoid the ethanol in all my small engines. The canned fuel is just too expensive.

If you really can't search up a station that sells e free gasoline (near any of your regular travels) the places that sell race gas around here have 5 gallons cans of something folks like you can purchase. I get five gallons or a bit less when I am out of state but have a pick up truck so vapor inside a vehicle is not an issue. It is no big deal to run pump gas at least on modern stuff hopefully the last tank or partial tank is e free if you do not use it soon. I get 91 octane when I find not the 87 or 93 discussed above things must vary a lot.

These days Non ethanol premixed fuel is available at all kinds of places, hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Walmart all sell premixed fuel much cheaper than a Stihl dealer and it’s just as good, if your the type that doesn’t go through a lot of fuel premixed is a very good choice that might save you lots of trouble. When I bought my latest Husqvarna brand new Husqvarna actually doubled the warranty for anyone that bought 2 quarts of premixed fuel at the same time.

Run all your saws on E free if possible & if it was me a mix of 40 or south /1 I run all my kit at 32/1 tune accordingly
