I think once you have a good p&c the rest is just a part here and a part there. You can have a dozen saws with bad p&c and you have nothing till the good p&c arrives. Rant over.

I've bought a few saws just for the cylinder. I was told they had good cranks but that wasnt the case. But I did get 2 more good PP445 cylinders. So I have 1 good runner in 445 and 2 more for cylinders to use.

Do the 3400's have some kind of limited coil? Or some feature in th carb that limits rpm? My 3400 will not rev out when piss reving like you would do to tune by ear. It hits a certain rpm and begins to "surge" for lack.of a better way to describe it. It sounds just like a rev limiter in a car. If I put it in wood it is an animal. But I had to tune it in the wood for best power and I like to hear that four stroke burble to reassure me that my tune is good and this just wint do it.

I have had the same time, rebuild the carb and it just wouldn't open up, changed to a carb that worked and all was good. Not sure if it was the float level or something else. Reworked the carb again and changed filter and fixed, never could answer as to what was wrong but someone else might

Carb has been rebuilt with an OE kit.
It runs fine cutting. It.just wont free rev.

I used a walbro kit when I rebuilt mine, had no trouble, when I installed that 3700 top end, didn't even have to adjust it. Will 4stroke perfectly and get down to business in a cut. No rev limiter in carb or coil. You may want to check for an air leak also.

I'm about to put crank seals in an old Dayton saw. It's the same as a 25da. I rebuilt it a couple of years ago but didn't do cranks seals. I have no use for a chainsaw except maybe 2x a year. After I rebuilt it the saw ran OK but still wasn't a reliable runner. It got me by if I held my tongue just right iykwim. This hurricane parks in my backyard for two days and I needed the saw. Same deal, it would run OK but then quit. I somehow resisted smashing it to pieces and I'm going to put the seals in. If I'm going this far should I take some time to do some mild porting?
Thanks!

Steve,

What did you finally end up using for ant vibe insulators on your 5200?. A Husky PN would be good.

I have at least two large totes of Poulan parts that I might not even get to look at until some time next year... If I remember correctly, there are even a few NOS cylinders for some smaller saws and such.
