A laminate 20" is a great bar for weight reduction and cost, if you're making a lot of bore cuts/blowing the tips out get something with a replaceable tip, but remember now you've added weight to the tip, which is the most crucial point to me. That being said it's a 20" on a heavy saw, just don't fill it up all the way, run skip chain, lots of ways to shave a little weight. Mill a couple thousandths off the bar if you must, whatever, as I said were talking about a 20 on a heavy saw.
Most importantly if your only running a 20 you're obviously not a professional:laughing:.
What's that make you @Leeroy .

The search here does suck. I’ll go look.
I like to search using google, the engine here is very poor, it really bothers me when folks give new guys a hard time for not searching for things before asking.
I wonder if the forums do that on purpose to get more posts/hits :badpc:.
Search Light Weight.....on page 1&3 at least there is a thread on making your own.
For this I would search something like "Light weight chainsaw bars forum" or "homemade reduced weight bar Arboristsite".

Thanks. I’m more used to using The Readers Guide to Periodical Literature

If it is published anymore.

Not really sure what the big deal is if I am a Pro or not?
There are lots of Pros out that are in reality far from it.

So lets change some of the parameters: I want to run a 28" bar on my 460. What lightweight bar would you fellas recommend?

Oh, everyone knows a Pro logger would NEVER use hazlenut creamer in his coffee. That's for pussies. Sheesh......... LOL

Little port work and opening up the muffler would lighten it up, and advancing the timing will make it a little quicker revving which will make the bar tip move up quicker, that would be sure to simulate a lighter bar .
Yes genius, lots more weight savings to be had! Plus when you file the flywheel key you are reducing weight too. If you only need to run it in cold temps you could break off every other flywheel fin. And half of the cylinder fins too. You could strip/grind the paint off the saw and bar too. Remove the stickers and badges. Remove the kill switch and just use the choke to kill it. Chainbrake..who needs that!

Sorry for the derail.

Brett was making fun of our friend yota for saying bar size correlates to your status as a pro. I think he's on your side here. :)

I have a ported 044/046......28” Stihl light.
Left arm straight down the tip is at ground level.
Carried by the top handle.....dead level.
That’s what I like about it.
It weighs what a regular 20” weighs.
And the .063 3/8 oils well

Ooh now thems fighting words :blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2:
He's obviously not a pro Arboristsite user or he'd know that .

I was.
In that case I apologize to all.
Too late, I'm super offended .

I agree, to be a pro, which is an abbreviation of professional, I'm pretty sure that would mean you get paid to do a job. I've done some tree work for pay, that makes me a professional(even when my bar length was 20" or under ); being an expert at something is another deal altogether, I won't claim that lol.
I have an Oregon in the 28" as well as the tsumara and both are much lighter than a factory bar, as far as the difference between the two it's not enough to make me buy one or the other, now the price is a different story when buying new ;).
I also have the stihl lightweight bars in 20 and 24 and a bunch of the total/tsumara 24's (and 16/18" for smaller saws), I like them all to be honest.

Now about this pro logger/coffee thing :drinkingcoffee:, pretty sure I'm not the lightweight who started this thread :ices_rofl:.

...Oh, everyone knows a Pro logger would NEVER use hazlenut creamer in his coffee....

I'm not a pro logger, hell I'm not even a logger, hell I'm just an AS fool at the very bottom of the stairs... but I do have a spoon full of coffee mate accompanied with Bulleit Frontier in my coffee right now :drinkingcoffee:

My Dad used to like his coffee black with a heavy shot of Ginger Brandy for"medicinal purposes"
I was 27 years 0ld til I figured out he just liked ginger brandy.............

I drank crap coffee for so long driving truck that I've learned to appreciate it not so crappy tasting lol.
I'll still drink it black, but one thing I don't like to do is to sip a cup of coffee like many do, so I'll add a couple ice cubes to it.

Gas station coffee is usually horrible, so I can understand needing to sweeten that.

I try to take a thermos with me so between the thermos and travel mug I have 8 cups with.

I like to wait till coffee is cool then drink it all. More caffeine at once.

Gas station coffee I put about 2/3 coffee then fill it with the mocha or hazelnut cappuccino.
At some of the places I used to deliver/pick up at I'd add one of the cocoa packets to my cup of coffee, it helps mask it .
