North East Tennessee Saturday MAC Report

Started out with a light drizzle but turned into a beautiful cool day in North East Tennessee today. An old health nemesis returned with a vengeance which kept me out of cutting. I was able to work on the tractor and trailer some. Grandchildren came down for the weekend so all turned out well despite a MACless weekend.

I understand that despite his shoulder, Brian was at the lot reminding the guys what a MAC can do.

Mark's news has me reflecting on my own father who passed in 2006. He would have been 97 this year. I owe my MAC affections to him. More importantly, I and we owe their generation a massive debt of gratitude. The small sacrifices we are making with Covid-19 pales to the sacrifices they made during WWII.

I believe yesterday was the official end of the season so the frequency and content of the Saturday MAC Report will change - maybe I can get back into the lab.

Got to go now - streaming church and then two birthdays to celebrate - my oldest and youngest daughters'.

Be Safe Out There.

Ron

Been sealing up a few gas tanks with the rubber gaskets, this is the 10-10 that seems to have very little run time and cleaned up nicely. These saws are seriously under rated in my opinion, just thinking about a modern 54cc saw with full comp on a 20" chain in hardwood conjures up images of bogging. Speed is nice but grunt satisfies.

The condenser on the 125 tested okay. However this stop wire was in pretty bad shape. I replaced it with one from a parts saw but now that I have the stop switch/wire assembly back together, the red stop switch doesn’t click going forward or backward and almost seems a little loose. It’s too easy going forward and backward to feel right. Did I maybe install something wrong? Screw on the bottom side seems pretty tight

My first cp125 i got was "a runner" on ebay. When i got it though it was not. I checked everything and the spark was hit or miss. Turned out the points were the culprit. They were not closing everytime. Kinda different, so it got a chip. Runs great now. Incidentally i ran across a youtube video made by the seller of that very cp125 and it was running but not great. So turns out he did not make it up. Lol.

"Running " and usable are not exclusive apparently.

I’m sure something is wrong. This is what I’m currently looking at

Glad the chip worked anyways. Can you get ignition chips for the older saws like the model 3-25 and model 47? Seems like the chips should work on most of em' but I'm not sure because I haven't tried any on the older saws and haven't checked ratings for the capacitors.

I recently put one on a homelite super 55 which is pretty old and it worked.

Simple test, take a wire stripped at both ends and start the saw ,touch one end of the wire to a bare metal part of the saw the other to the copper tang ,if the saw shuts off the copper is not contacting the body of the saw ,if it doesn't shut off some things wrong with the wiring to the coil.
Fyi suggest not having a bar and chain on during such tests.

Never had spark to begin with so I have never started the saw. But I’m just trying to make sure I have this switch right before I go any further. Tried a couple different combinations and no luck. Doesn’t help that it’s kind of a PITA to line everything up lol.

Oh I thought you had the reverse problem of not shutting off.

Use the water weld by jb ED. I've used it with great success just make sure you clean all the oil off completely and smear it into the cracks with your fingers. It states a 900 psi tinsel strength but who knows. It has worked well for me. Thats a big crack, hope its salvageable.

What is that you're using for the air box seal?

Ok guys, I've posted about this before. I am in search of an 82cc Mac. A have put aside a decent amount of money to purchase one. I also have a Homelite superXL925 that is a good runner that I would trade or partial trade. I dont mind a project as long as it's mostly complete and salvageable. I like then a bit ugly anyway lol.
If someone has something they wouldnt mind parting with please PM me and we can talk about it.

Came to the conclusion the 125 is cursed. Set to bring misery to whoever tries to get it to run apparently lol..

Fighting me every step of the way. I still have no spark so I was gonna go in and clean the points and double check the gap and now I can’t get the flywheel key out. Had It out last night, reinstalled it and now I’m attacking it with non marring punches and small flat head screwdrivers and it’s non budging. Gonna remain persistent on this thing..
