Go for the tooling.

Bill

HA! I have tooling (well.... but a Volstro head or an E-head slotter would be nice)... now I just need one of my two BP's up and running. First I have to build a spray booth inside my garage... next week...

Decent tooling at firesale prices isn't all that hard to come by here in Boeing Land. Lots of retiring machinists that can't (or don't want to) make the transition to CNC. I tracked down just about every Craigslist tool offer in the past 4 months. And I'm always trolling on ebay.

another 395 would be fine with me.

i'd settle for another 372 or 346 as well.390xp even

wouldn't hear me complain if i found an 038 mag or an 056 mag either.not to mention extra air filters will fit in the stocking.

I don't want any damn saws for xmas, and "my" santa knows better anyhow.

LakeScrooge!

You KNOW that you have chainsaw disease. You know that you can use at least 3 more saws in your collection. You cannot help it. I mean, you have more posts on AS than anyone else, and well, almost more rep than anyone else. I would say that you have a very very advanced case of chainsaw addiction disorder. "Hi, my name is Andy and I am a Chainsawaholic."

Now, tell Santa what saws you want for Christmas... don't be shy.

A SOLO 681 for bigger trees and a STIHL MS 880 for a chainsawmill. But I know, who is Santa Claus. So I think this wishes are only dreams.

Christmas Saws

When I made out my Christmas list for Santa I could'nt think of any saws that I really need. So I requested that he should bring some new Sthil 361 for everyone on this site, Hope you all enjoy your new saws!

You into Italian versions? This one seems like a great price but the 3 phase power might be a PIA to convert.

Santa saws?

I'll take a Helsel 3120, a Lemke Rotax, a DC 500, and a DT Rotax.

A Jonsered 2186 would look nice under the tree, but after the two new saws I bought this year, it looks like I'll have to wait until next year for that one.

But you would lose the higher efficiency and cheaper rates of using true 3-phase electricity. :monkey:

nope.. o.k. a couple of %.. but you a gain BIG time in variable frequency (speed control), ramped acceleration/de-accel, low voltage start/stop/reverse, constant torque, torque boost, and zillion features you couldn't dream off without one.

Efficiency? considering you likely run at a lower speed a lot of the time, you actually gain.

AND... you don't need an expensive motor starter and overload protection - the VFD does it for you. I took one out of the box yesterday, and 5 minutes later my motor was running.

3 phase motors are really cheap and reliable. Start collecting them... now they actually useful at home.

Here's one of mine:

Yes, that is true for production where hundreds of motors are used. But those facilities must also use costly transformers to get back 110 volts. So for the average single phase homeowner guy with a drill press, lathe, or Bridgeport a vfd is a cost effective option. Plus you get lots of other neat stuff like variable speed control, reversing, dynamic braking, and soft starting. Some drives allow over speed above and beyond 60 Hertz, (as high as 400Hz) which is nice because you can change speed on the fly.

I want a STIHL 361!!!! not only will it cut down trees, it will cure cancer, fight crime, clean up your garage, drive the kids to school, get you a beer when your thirsty. You can pretend it's a pony, take it fishing, carve pretty things with it,
It will change the oil in your car, mow the grass, plow the snow, rake the leafs, And if your a real Stihl man you can even have SEX with it.
na...... ill just take a 372xp!

Have sex with it??? Must be deSPERATE times out your way:)

Here's the saw I found under the tree last year. How could I wish for more than that?

Andy
