Trying to get some details on these two saws, as far as a heads up comparison. I'm in need of a 60/70cc saw with full wrap for felling. I already have a 262xp, but I cannot find a full wrap handle for it. However, I see several 266xps with full wraps for sale often.

What says AS on these two? The specs I've found show the 262 putting out more power? The plan is to have the saw ported also, which I'm sure puts a spin on things.

Any input is appreciated.

The 266 readily accepts the 272 top end; parts are much more available for the 162 chassis than the 154 chassis as well.
If you are thinking about a builder, mostly due to parts availability the 266 takes the win.
Love running my 262, but the 266 makes more sense going forward, and if you are going to port, might as well port a 272.
I might lean towards a 268, 272 or even a late 61 just to get a single coil saw. Clutch and ignition availability is better for them.

I’ve never seen a full wrap for a 262?

262 and 266/268/272 are different chassis. If your swapping to the larger 272 from 266, whole intake tract is different and needs to be swapped over. I did a thread on here a ways back.

I believe I have read of their being an aftermarket full wrap available for the 262 when they were a current saw. That of course was a very long time ago.

That is all you need besides gaskets to 272 swap a 266 or 61. P&C, intake block and the screws. Everything else can be reused. Ideally a 266 HS224 or later 268/272 carb should be used, but it will run with the 163.

262XP restricts you to K095 bars- likely if lucky the longest you will find is 24".
This may not matter much if you only need 60-70cc for falling, but there is a lot more options in the D009 range.

The majority of the time, I'm felling/falling stuff that's 24" and under. My thought is to have a 60-70cc saw with full wrap and a 28" bar. Thinking will be lighter and easier to wield than a 70-80cc+ saw with a longer guide bar.

I have a MS461 if I need to run a 36", and access to an 066.

I thought about just adding a full wrap to the 461, but it's heavier than I want for a felling bucking saw in my woods.

The 266 (with a bar adapter) could run 3003 mount bars that will interchange with your 461 (which is the saw I would be standardising a 28"on long before a 266), so would allow you to stock one type of bar mount and one gauge chain standard over both saws to cover a lot of options.

Now you have me thinking, which is good. LOL

This is why I love this forum (and forums in general).

Maybe I'll stick with the 461 and a full wrap. It's got a 28" on it now.

Well you already have a 262XP on your signature- so 266XP seems a logical option?

Exactly!

I was only looking at the 266 as full wraps were available and it was close in size/power to the 262: or vise versa.

Now I have some thinking to do. The other option is a 372.....

NO no no no no- you can make a 266 a 272 with a bit of juggling- better to go 266 and 385 (or 288?). ;)

My 262 seems more nimble, smaller, and lighter than 266/272 hybrid. I can only imagine a 262 ported.

It’s all about user preference in the end and use.....

My ported 254s are my favorite saws, I'm curious how a ported 262 would compare. Right now I bet my 254s would cut circles around my stock 262.

Try sharpening both sides of the chain- knocks that circle cutting action straight on the head! :surprised3:

Stock for stock having owned and used multiple 262, 266 saws the 266 has more low-end torque. Tbe 262 was spring mounted the 266 was not. As has been mentioned the 266 uses the larger mount.
